No, even if the suns get Gordon, the rebuilding is not done. Stage one is done. Warrick has one year left, fry and Chilli have two year each. That's enough for yet another max contract two years from now, or even sooner- waive one of them, trade one of them, and amnesty one of them.

Just with what the Suns have agreed to now they will be sitting at around 47mil in cap next year. That is minus Warrick and Childress and not including anyone else they sign or cap holds. Even if Gortat walks for nothing in 2014 they will still be shy of being able to offer a max that year unless they stretch some of the guys they just signed.

Those are all a year short. Warrick's contract goes through 2014, etc.

This is the last year of Warrick's contract for all intents and purposes since the final year of his deal is a team option.

Even so, I'd prefer at this point that they walk away from Gordon. I would guess that the difference between Gordon and someone like O. J. Mayo is five wins at most, and that's not enough to outweigh the loss of future flexibility.

According to Shamsports and Hoopsworld, Warrick's final year (2013-14) is a team option. Hoopshype shows it as neither team not player option. Supposedly Shamsports is the most trusted, but they did show Gortat incorrectly with with a player option in his final year for the longest time before it was corrected. So if prevailing wisdom holds up, Warrick is an expiring contract.

You're assuming that NOLA doesn't match Gordon.

Not that it matters much, but watching Around the Horn and PTI today they liked our moves. Around the Horn panel like the additions of Beas and Dragic, and Wilbon on PTI thought it was a great move to try to get Gordon.

Of course talking heads are often wrong, but I'll take praise over the Suns being laughed at.

No one thought we were making a mistake on any of the moves. No one thought we got fleeced for Nash, and felt we got a good stash of picks. Just saying, even though it doesn't mean anything.

I think accumulating assets is the safer move. If Beasley/Gordon as the first options prove their worth, we can always move them to make room for a max contract.

As to Mavs, in hindsight, they should have kept Barea/Chandler/Stevenson for repeat. They could have signed Tyson Chandler to a slightly lesser contract right themselves, instead of s&t him to NYK. Stevenson would come in cheap too. Both contracts woulda been movable this or next year. Even Barea might be easily moved if he again played big in the PO.

Speights for 2-years/$8M to Memphis. That would have been a nice addition for the Suns, imo. But they only seemed to show any interest in Beasley among front-court players.

In other news, Brandon Roy to T-Wolves for 2-years/$10.4M. Didn't he retire? That seems like a lot of money for a player attempting a comeback.

T-Wolves will also sign Batum to an offer sheet worth $45M over four years. Batum wants out of Portland, but the Blazers may still match.

Gordon and Mayo have the same agent, does not hurt.

If they are wise Mayo does not commit to anyone before the Gordon situation is resolved.

It certainly would be a much less risky signing. Mayo's contract would have been substantially smaller and there are no health concerns as with Gordon. Beasley and Mayo would get a chance to redeem themselves after being selected #2 and #3 respectively in the 2008 draft.

But, I don't believe the Suns have met with Mayo, so if there is any mutual interest we have not heard about it. If Gordon is matched, the Suns could offer Mayo more money than other teams could or would be willing to. But will he still be available? I have not read any news concerning his status, so maybe he is waiting.

I would like to see us add another frontcourt player with legitimate size... someone young with some untapped potential. I know McGee has played a few years and then a bit of a clown, but there are a few people out there with his combination of length and athleticism. He showed a couple times in that Lakers series that he could be a game changer. Of course he also showed that he could be a nonfactor in some games. Unfortunately he's restricted sale we would have to overpay to get Denver to let him go. That would be high risk high reward big-time.

McGee has more baggage than Beasley though.

The biggest problem I think is that his mother (former WNBA player) is as immature as he is.

We would have to pay him the max to get him, in that case I would have preferred Hibbert.

Lou Williams is a more favorable signing than Gordon. Clearly, I do not want Gordon on this team. I would support Gordon on this team as a 6th man, but not as our big splash guy. That is not to suggest Lou would be a big splash, but he's a guy who would come cheaper and would relegate to a 6th man role once we found an actual big splash (next year, the year after?)....

Speights would have been a GREAT signing. To bad we couldn't get in on that action - especially at that low salary....

Totally agree. Speights would have been a good signing for this amount of money. Memphis just keeps getting larger.

In other news, Ray Allen will be taking what's left of his talents to South Beach.

A Dwight Howard Trade is Imminent. I repeat: A Dwight Howard Trade is Imminent.

LOL

Speculating that the Lakers are in play. But from what I understand, our trade made it so that the Lakers can't include any 1st round draft picks unless they are from 2017 or later. If Orlando has any sense, there is no way a trade with the Lakers is in the works. Bynum is ok, but for a team that will have to do a massive rebuild, not getting any picks is unacceptable.

If the Lakers do trade future picks it is to the Suns benefit because it will remove whatever protection there is on the 2015 pick. I know it's unlikely to amount to much but it is something.

Howard to the LA Sparks for Lisa Leslie?
