Wrong. A-Dub took less money and far less recognition to stay here last time. His most recent contract was done very quick because the Cards came correct because of what he has done for the franchise. Playing for the Cards has definitely hurt his chances of being the the Pro Bowl and maybe having a shot at the HOF, but he stayed anyway. It wasn't about the money, it was about the fact that he wanted to be a part of turning the franchise around.

Dansby on the other hand has made it abundantly clear that he wants $$ and nothing else. If the Raiders offer him the most money he will be wearing black and silver come September.

Without even considering what he does on the field, Wilson is easily one of the greatest Cardinals of all time. Every true Cardinal fan should own an Adrian Wilson jersey.

Show me something that shows or proves what you say about Wilson taking less $$$$ on his last contract? Don't believe it one iota. Not to mention that at the start of that contract Wilson wasn't considered the player he is now. Didn't have a single pro bowl under his belt either!

No he was offered more from other teams in his first contract and took less than what other teams were offering to play here. Wasn't it Dallas that was going after him hard?

Says you. How did Q make PB's then? Fitz? Aeneas Williams? David Boston? Scott Player? Neil Rackers? All during the cards losing years!

There are 5 other teams with 3 Pro Bowlers on Defense. None of them is ranked lower than 13th in total Defense.

Green Bay #2
Baltimore #3
Denver #7
Philly # 12
Houston #13

I know it's a meaningless stat but is interesting that we have 3 PBers on the defensive side of the ball yet can't even crack the top 15 in total Defense.

Our 3 PBers can't do much about Michael Adams trying to cover Greg Jennings. Or McFadden getting beat play after play. Despite the defensive rankings and the points allowed the last 2 games we do have some legit stars on this defense but the overall talent and depth still need upgrading.

I think our PBers are a tad overrated too. Both Wilson and DRC IMO! I also think we greatly over rate Dansby.

Q made 1 during those years. You think Aeneas got the respect and recognition he deserves as one of the best to ever play his position?? Let me be the first to tell you that outside of STL and Arizona most people don't even know who he is. David Boston was a roided-out freak of nature. Why does the rest of the world seem to think that Fitz just started playing football last year when the playoffs started. Rackers blew the doors off an NFL record, the players had to vote him in. Why wasn't Ben Graham put in this year? You don't think he would be in if he played for the Cowboys, Pats, Redskins, Giants, Eagles, 49ers or Raiders? Our guys that did make it got in on player and coach votes, not from the fans.

I'm not sure where to rate Dansby. He's got rare size and speed. Since he started off his college career as a safety he's better than most dropping back in to coverage. Not counting the converted DE's I think he's better than average as a pass rusher. However, he just doesn't have that special "it" to put him in that upper echelon.

Your reaching! It's obvious that people who know who Aeneas is. As evidence by making it to next to the last cut off for the HOF. Fitz and Q both made it during the lean years. IE prior to Whiz Q twice during that time.

Really can't argue with this. Listening to local talk radio hosts go on about the top teams in the NFC without ever mentioning the Cards who have beaten every team in the NFC they've played at least once in the last two years except Wash & NO and hold scoreboard on media darlings Dallas, Philly, NYGiants, Minny and Green Bay you realize that the boys in the AZ just don't get much respect.

Ha... anything is possible of course. But Wow would Miami or any other team dumping that truckload of cash on him be overpaying in a major way!

I understand where your coming from on this but I just hate hearing that a guy "isn't worth the money" it just makes it sound like he isn't any good. It's probably just semantics but it's more that we can't afford him under the current sal-cap rules.

For example how much money would a guy like Terrell Suggs have been worth to the Cardinals this season? I'd have paid $20 million or more of the Bidwill's dollars for a guy who could do what he does.

Heck Calvin Pace who we couldn't afford is better than what we have at OLB. Imo our defense would be much better if we still had him. The sad realities of the NFL.

i could be wrong, but I think he's better suited for OLB, where he can use his speed to put pressure on the defense from the flank.

He's not a banger, and if I'm going to run the 3-4, I want two bangers (like a healthy G. Hayes) at ILB and two guys with athleticism on the outside.

And if he wants more than eight mil a year, he can go ahead and book his flight out of town now.

Overpaying a good player just to keep him is really, really bad business, and fatal to a football organization.

It may hurt in the short run to let go a player who overvalues himself, but it gives the team the chance to improve over the long term, and sends the appropriate message to other players on the team regarding contract negotiations.

Not always. A lot of people thought the Cards overpaid Warner just to keep him. Then he goes out and plays better than 98% of all 38 year old QBs in NFL history.

I suspect that you think that we over-rate almost everyone on the team whose name doesn't start with a "Q".

Nope. Fitz, Warner, Campbell, Timmy and Wells. Don't think any of them are overrated. ;)

if losing Dansby means we get Vince Wilfork then i'm all for it. If it means we sign 3 Jason Wright's and a Matt Ware with that money then it will be a huge loss. I don't mind a guy leaving if you're going to use the money to bring in some players with impact but the Cards never do that. I would think letting your best players walk without any viable replacement is not the best way to improve your team.

Not necessarily true IMO. We both know Whiz wont add three more RBs since we already have 4. We will fill Dansby's slot. However, if we had 1 more Matt Ware then Michael Adams/Abdullah wouldn't have been on the field 1/2 as much as they were the last few games. That would have made us significantly better IMO.

DJ -- you hit on a couple things that have been running through my head--

I think Dansby is really good, but is he $25m SB / $10 mm a year good? Only the market will tell us.

Suggs got his money because he is a proven pass rusher from the edge who can win one on one match ups. I dont think Dansby is that guy.

Pace is a perfect illustration of the conundrum: he has been a 7.5 sack a year guy for the Jets. Its in that "good but not great" category. Cash rich teams like the Jets can probably afford to pay good players like they are great players. Even with the new stadium, the Cardinals cannot (and that just means they are like about 20 other "middle class" teams in the NFL).

Instead he (Graves) paid him about 20 mill the last 2 years and is still going to lose him (Dansby) when he probably could have put that 20 mill into a bonus and locked him up for 5 years.
This is the part of the whole scenario that bothers me the most! The Cardinals ended up giving Dansby the money, yet lose his services. When they could have given him the money up front and kept him for another two or three years beyond the just finished season.

However, if we had 1 more Matt Ware then Michael Adams/Abdullah wouldn't have been on the field 1/2 as much as they were the last few games. That would have made us significantly better IMO.
Isn't that the truth! Who would of thought this prior to Ware's being injured? Prior to Ware's injury if anyone on the board said that he was an instrumental component of the Cardinals defense, they would have been pounded mercilessly. It just shows how little we really know...

Ware may have helped but my point was you can't replace 1 player of Dansby's caliber with 3 guys who are backup material at best. That's what i'm afraid the Cards will try and do.

They may not have much choice. The ILB prospects for this year are slim. After McClain and Spikes there isn't anybody who looks like they could come in and produce big time right away like a Jerod Mayo.

Not a good year imo to leave a huge hole at that position.

So which of the ILB prospects look like a potential Karlos Dansby other than McClain and Spikes? The guys I looked at on the draft sites after those two don't exactly get me excited about our chances.

Sean Lee of Penn State? Torn ACL in spring 2008. Calling STOUT!
Darryl Washington of TCU who Joeshmoe says is better suited for Hayes spot?
Darryl Sharpton at 5'11"????

Maybe Pat Angerer of Iowa. But he's barely 6 feet.
