That's a tough one, a healthy Kawhi is an all star at the 3, if you can really figure out a way to play him, Josh Jackson, and Booker together that's 3 really good players potentially. the problem is no PG and no real 4.

I think Ayton might average a double double right away but I do think he's going to have issues on defense, a healthy Leonard won't and I think JJ is going to be a terrific defender, he has been his whole life, he will eventually in the NBA too I suspect. It's just not clear to me that Kawhi is big enough to play the 4 fulltime in the NBA. He's only 26 but recent history of injury do you want to also ask him to play up a position?

It sounds like he wants to go to the Lakers, and the Celtics and Kings are both very interested in Kawhi as well, so it'll be interesting to see what happens. IIRC the rumors were the Celtics planned on playing Kawhi as a 4 so maybe the Suns could too.

Not clear to me how the Lakers plan to get LeBron, George and Kawhi in capwise, but from what I read online it would involve getting someone to take Luol Deng and his massive contract, I somehow doubt the Spurs are going to do that.

LMAO...it was tongue and cheek, Cheese. But, they def have until 2022.
To be competitive, maybe, but not likely dominating the league in 2020-2022 in quite the same fashion. So if we are rising during that span we will be climbing toward OUR dynasty.

Yeah the rumor already is Draymond wants a supermax deal after this next season. It sounds like Durant is sticking around but next year may be the last year those 4 guys are together. People might think ok let Draymond walk and you still have the 3 great scorers but with an aging Iggy and no Draymond the defense probably falls off a cliff.

I'm enjoying it while I can I just don't see it going more than another couple of years
The upside for the warriors is that no other team would ever consider giving draymond a supermax contract because he can’t carry a team. He’s the greatest glue guy of all time maybe, but no one comes to watch just a glue guy.

Trading Kawhi is worst idea ever:

Guy who doesn’t like spurs
Injured
Free agent coming who wants to go to specific teams
Has bad influencers
Will cost more money, hence cap space

McD just can’t do this. The 21st can’t come fast enough.

I've seen some trade scenarios for Leonard on ESPN that are straight up garbage for SA.

http://www.espn.com/nba/story/_/id/23295190/kawhi-leonard-trades-see-san-antonio-spurs-make-nba

LAL - Ball/Ingram, Deng & Kouzma (probably best deal but LAL wouldn't have to include 2018 1st rounder).

Who knows what else with #1 pick PHX would have to give up. Plus, not sure how serious Leonard's injury was but he missed most of the season (I know some of it was him just not wanting to report back) but who knows if there will be long term effects with his health. Lastly, he and Booker's deal will pretty much lock PHX down roster wise with no ability to add to the team and a Leonard/Booker/Jackson Big 3 (if he's not included in a Leonard deal) probably won't be enough to overtake GS in the next 2 years.

I stay the course and take Ayton which will allow PHX to make other moves to add to him/Booker/Jackson because they still would have cap flexibility. Kokoskov and coaching staff will need to get him motivated on defense but I am sure Ayton will accept coaching and work to get better.

Ingram and Kuzma would be good pieces to get in return. Like baseball trades the Spurs would have to take on money to get both young players. It will all depend on how crappy San Antonio’s leverage is when Leonard’s circle tells them they won’t re-sign with anyone besides team X.

I'm guessing the ringer source doensnt even know the suns situation.

Trading for kawhi is literally illogical. because if the suns have to convince him to stay in 2019... Why wouldn't they just wait to sign him as a free agent in 2019.

It's the same dynamic where they have to convince him on the suns, but will actually still keep their prime assets such as #1 pick which makes the team way more attractive.

The fact he includes BOTH Jackson and number 1 pick in his fake proposal tells me he is an idiot.

I think Ayton can be better than 1 and 2. He's not comparable to the rest.

I think Ayton is a lot more of a sure thing than Young. He's a freak athlete, with a polished offensive game. Its rare that a big man of his caliber is available. Usually once every 5 years or so.

Don't try and keep up; do something different that those teams have to account for. If Ayton can be a competent 3 point shooter, the Suns will be deadly. That's why I would want a trade up from 16. The Suns don't need a plethora of young players, they need a few stars. I think Ayton is the most likely to be a star in this draft, followed by Doncic, and then a group of about 4-5 players like Young that could be too.

The Suns need to throw a package at the Grizz that includes at least a decent player (Warren?) and picks. Take on Parsons ugly salary and have him be a rotation shooter. Maybe 16, Bucks pick, Miami pick, Warren, and 31?

PG: Doncic or Young
SG: Booker
SF: Jackson
PF: Chriss/Bender
C: Ayton

That's going to be a pretty strong lineup 3 years from now....right around the time GSW is probably falling apart. It's a lineup that has size, play making ability, and some 3 point shooting.

I dont think the suns need to include Warren but I'm unsure. I mean the suns are basically paying 49 mill for the fourth pick. That seems steep. As a matter of fact they might have to take a little salary back (Dudley?). I would think Duds+picks+Bender or Chriss might get it done but I dont know how the market works in a deal like that.

Why would Memphis use the 4th pick to dump Parsons? They aren’t winning with or without him. I don’t buy that report at all.

I don't know if I buy the report either but I don't believe it would be about winning, if it's accurate. It seems like a financial decision to me.

Yeah every one of those deals is awful.

Also the lakers don’t have their 2018 pick.

I get that it’s a shi^tty contract but they’re not paying the tax and he’s gone in two years. Unless they get another pick a few spots down or a promising young player that would make the KT trade look good.

This and maybe they want to be players in 2020 free agency when Gasol's deal comes off the books. Leonard, Irving, Draymond are some of the headliners next year.

OK so he has them trading Josh Jackson as well to get Kawhi.

That's too much risk given he's had injuries to BOTH quads

I'm ready for the Suns to add to the base of Ayton, Jackson and Booker rather than give up premium assets for a retread... not taking anything away from Leonard. The Suns should be in position to attract a top free agent soon.

I agree wholeheartedly. Get our young studs. Build our own identity. Then start attracting free agents.
