Why would Memphis use the 4th pick to dump Parsons? They aren’t winning with or without him. I don’t buy that report at all.
Honestly, I think these things are a bit overblown. I would guess they are willing to drop a few spots to dump Parsons--but it will take more than that to move that contract.

The verdict: Young worth the risk
Because of his size and high-usage style, Young looks like more of a boom-or-bust prospect than the typical top-10 pick. That's reflected by the ESPN Analytics projections, which give him a 12 percent chance of becoming an All-Star -- tied with Deandre Ayton for fourth-best in the class -- but rank him just 10th overall because of a 23 percent chance of being a non-contributor. That's highest among players in the top 12 of the rankings.

Ayton fourth-best in the class. Humor me. Who's top three?

There are some valid concerns with Ayton as a prospect especially his motor. There has apparently been question marks on how hard he plays dating back to high school and it followed with him to Arizona.

Many of the analysts like Bill Simmons, Jonathan Giviny, Zach Lowe, Kevin O’Connor etc have said that it’s somewhat of a red flag for centers.

We have to hope that he will be much more motivated in the NBA and that Kokoskov can get through to him.

I agree there are legit concerns about Ayton but I don't get the "effort" knock. I thought his play at UA put that to rest. And as for all of them jumping on the "knock Ayton" bandwagon, remember that they all suckle at the same newsnipple.

Some of the guys are very well respected like KOC, Zach Lowe etc. Their not the usual loudmouths like Charles Barkley or Stephen A Smith (who both prefer Ayton).

His motor, IMO, is unquestionable. He hustles quite a bit, often leading the break.

It's his awareness that deserves question. He gets lost on D a lot. I hope it's because Arizona was terribly coached this year.

That said, Doncic's motor is insane, that kid is all over the place.

I haven't heard Zach or Kevin rip Ayton for a lack of effort in college? I've read concerns about his blocks and steals and his missteps in team defense but I haven't seen anything from them about his motor. What did they say?

I wasn't talking specifically about the motor but rather both preferring Doncic over Ayton as prospects.

Actually I think Kevin may have said something about Ayton's motor on one of the Ringer podcasts but I'll have to listen to it again to see if he did.

And I was only disagreeing with your comment that there were concerns about "Ayton... especially his motor".

Complaints about his effort were common prior to this season. But I thought it was clear to everyone that watched Arizona play this season that his motor was always running. He has flaws and maybe Doncic will be the better pro but I simply don't know how anyone can still knock Ayton's effort.

Bill Simmons talked about it a little bit on the Ringer podcast yesterday

Starts talking about it at 5:20 mark if you're interested.

Here's my knocks on Ayton after watching a bunch of game film: He's often out of position on defense and for rebounding. In college, it didn't really affect his rebounding because he was so much bigger than everybody else but he's going to have to learn to box out at the NBA level. I think these lack of fundamentals are because he came to basketball late after starting out playing soccer like most of his countrymen. Having said all that, he seems like an intelligent dude that can learn to position his body correctly and we have a great coach to teach him in Kokoskov. I'm hoping he figures it out and is a monster for us for years to come. They always say big men take longer to develop.

I agree with all this. I would add that his college coach raved about his effort and focus. He's not a horrible defender but he makes critical mistakes especially in team defense. In that regard, he'll fit right in with Booker and company but hopefully Koko will straighten them all out.

Zach Lowe does not watch NCAA basketball, you can go on his podcast where he says so himself.

Whoa, I thought I went back in time...

The 1 year ban ended exactly 2 days before the draft?? Lol that’s awesome.

Welcome back!

That is because he was played out of position. He "earned that distinction" because he was more flexible than the other UofA Center, not because he was a lesser Center. 'Some reward!

Right? And slin was right there waiting!

Welcome back slin. Should be a fun week!

I wasn‘t waiting but sure nice to come back and finding gloating ASCII penis imagines in my inbox from the guy who was trying to get me banned.

I could say a whole lot more about the blatant lies of certain people.
