Lovullo should be talking about the importance of actually winning games and series to get into a better position to compete for a wild card spot in the second half (only 77 games after tonight, boyz and girlz).

I didn’t see or follow the game. Mantiply gave up a single run and didn’t last a single inning. But why does the coach start a pitcher and let him pitch and not complete an inning? Was he pitching that bad?

I’ve seen other games where he leaves a pitcher in for an inning or two, gives up 6 or 7 hits plus a couple of walks before pulling him.

It makes no sense to me and never will. And I can’t believe the statistics support that reasoning. Do other teams start games that way? Please ignore this if Mantiply was injured.

Mantiply was used as an “opener”. You start a reliever to face a couple guys you think you have good matchups with before your actual starter. It’s something analytics says should work, but it doesn’t seem to work for us. You only do this with a mediocre starter or long reliever to follow. Plus, I don’t trust Mantiply to be that specialist.

Mental crusher for Sewald. He's been good so far, but last night's meltdown will stick with him for a while. Doubt there will be another save opportunity against the mighty Dodgers, so he'll have some time to reflect, lol.
