Why? He's spent his entire carrer with the Saints. Bowles is a Parcells guy, BTW. With the Jets, Cowboys, and Dolphins, I believe.

Yep he is which is why he prefers the BIG edge guys instead of the dynamic speed rushers.

I stand corrected.

Well he interviewed yesterday and not much has been reported since.

Some writer for Chicago paper on twitter who quoted a source about the Bears GM (which he was wrong as Pace got the job) has said a source told him the next Bears HC is Todd Bowles... grain of salt.. huge grain. But yeah...

I think they finally want Dave McGinnis. He's definitely available.

I wouldn't be suprised considering being known as "the monsters of the midway" for most of their history & wanting to establish that identity again. Problem is they don't have many pieces of that puzzle anymore if any.

the team is fragile and thin, they have a huge issue at qb, and the media is vicious. If I was to take that job I would want full power over draft picks, asst coaches.

the whole "monsters of the midway" is what gets this team in trouble....the bears are a poorly run organization. they need to reboot and focus on a new image. They still grandstand meatheads like Dan Hampton and Steve McMichael...it just looks so stupid to me. They need a coach and GM to come in, bypass the trophy room at halas hall, and come out and say F- your past and F- your packer "rivalry". We need to rebuild this team from the ground up and it starts through the draft. THEN we can reminisce about the glory days and sing songs together but right now its about 2015 and beyond.

They haven't had that in a long time.

Have to wonder who Todd Bowles is trying to sell as his OC. I had thought that WR Coach Daryl Drake might be a logical candidate, but not sure what the Bears would think of Drake, their long-time WR coach. The Bears have outstanding WRs, plus an outstanding all-purpose RB, and one would imagine a coach like Drake could get the focus where it needs to be, that is, if he can get Jay Cutler to take his game up several notches. That's a big if---and the reason why it might be best for the Bears to hire an offensive-minded HC who could turn Cutler and the offense around.

Mitch that didn't work the last 2 yrs. in fact I don't think there's an offensive minded coach who can tap into Cutlers pea brain...he's jeff George part II.

You can bet the McCaskeys will have major input who's the next HC & why I can see them returning to their roots...defense! This makes Bowles the front runner imo which would suck for us

If we do indeed lose TB who do you think are the candidates BA would turn too?

BA has already stated that he wants to create a "coaching tree" within the staff---which implies (I think) that he already has an in-house coach in mind. For some reason, I don't see it being Mike Caldwell (LB Coach), but I could be wrong. I could see Caldwell going with Todd Bowles as his DC (with Bowles still calling the plays, a la BA). The guy I have a hunch on is Secondary Coach Nick Rapone, whom BA loves and trusts, as they were together a long time ago at Virginia Tech. Rapone was DC at the University of Delaware for 6-7 years prior to BA tabbing him to join the staff in AZ two years ago.

If it is Rapone, Kevin Ross (CB Coach) bumps up to Secondary Coach and Ryan Slowik (Asst. Sec. Coach) slides over to CB Coach and they hire a new young buck to take the asst. secondary spot and to keep the tree growing.

heard today on burns and gambo that some bears writer said that bowles had to wait for a lengthy amount of time as they wrapped up pace deal... best part is he just sat in the lobby lol they compared it to a 19 year old intern waiting ...

the bears are a mess

Listening yesterday morning (Friday) to Doug and Wolf interviewing John Clayton, he said that there is a good chance that Bowles would be back as DC of the Cards. I don't think he will get an offer to be a HC this year.

The hot names appear to be DC Dan Quinn Seahawks and Rex Ryan. it looks like the Jets want Quinn and the Falcons want Ryan. 49ers most likely will promote one of their defensive assistants. Bowles has said no to the Raiders. That leaves the Bears and the Bills. I don't see him going to Buffalo. Bottom line for me is it could be the Bears or back to the Cards. I just don't know if he is a good fit with the Bears and their new 37 year old GM Ryan Pace. I also don't think Bowles would be a good match with Cutler. Whoever goes to Chicago will have that to deal with.

Just my two cents, it will start getting clearer this coming week as HC hirings should start taking place.

When Rex Ryan is asked who his offensive coordinator will be as HC, 1 of his strongest pitches includes Marc Trestman. They want to pair up.

I think one thing that may hurt Bowles is this. Who can he bring on the be the OC? This could be an issue especially with the Bears and Cutler.

Don't think Roman will be available to be Bowles OC as he is already interviewing for an OC job.

As reported elsewhere, @49ers OC Greg Roman will interview for same position with @STLouisRams & @browns. Meeting with @Jaguars today

Sure but if Bowles has a handshake agreement that if he is HC he will bring him as OC and one of these jkobs hires him today, he has his job.

Hes not just going to sit around and hope that bowles gets a gig, has to interview elsewhere at the same time.

Same thing happened with Horton. He wanted turner and turner was still interviewing incase horton didnt get the job which was a good idea because horton didnt get one.

Bowles has been around the NFL for a long, long time--in multiple places. He has contacts and relationships to bring in a good coordinator. At the very least he should be able to recruit tony Sparano.

W/r/t the Bears---I remember two years ago they interviewed Ray horton and they passed on him because he wanted to convert to a 3-4 and the front office wanted to keep the historical 4-3 alignment. The same problem could submarine Bowles's candidacy.

If Bowles leaves, pretty obvious to put any hard feelings aside from Super Bowl 43 and hire Dick Laebeau right away.

4-3 defense might be the future. 3-4 defenses are getting very complex and now fewer practices available.

Update this Sunday morning, I think Jets want Quinn. He might not be available for awhile.

Ian Rapoport ‏@RapSheet
Where do #Jets stand with their coaching candidates: Dan Quinn and Todd Bowles have emerged above the others. May still talk to Gary Kubiak

I could be wrong, but I thought I read that Caldwell is under contract thru the 2015 season... I don't believe Bowles would be able to grab him...

Caldwell can leave to become a DC on another team---a.k.a. a promotion. The Cardinals would have to give him permission, but typically teams do not stand in the way when a coach is offered a promotion.
