Another WR? How many camp bodies do you need? I guess for all I know he may be a real diamond in the rough.

I dunno. Cardinals LOVE WR's. We had a lot last offseason too.

Chris Johnson 6'2" 232 lbs ILB'er. <-- not too much on him.

So Daryn Browser is the unknown WR who made that one handed catch in the minicamp photos.

I'm watching his youtube highlights right now and I like what I see though I think his route tree is probably extremely limited since all I see are bubble screens and streak routes. I see great leaping ability, hands, quickness and tackle breaking ability so I definately love his upside. Call me crazy but he reminds me of a shorter, raw Fitzgerald.

Here is some info on him: Good Small School ILB.

Height: 6-1.5
Weight: 232
40: 4.62
20: 2.75
10: 1.64
VJ: 39"
BP: 30 reps
BJ: 10.5
Before we do the standard thing of hanging the "camp fodder" rap on Johnson, a couple of things we might want to consider:

1. Ronald McKinnon was a UDFA.

2. Those workout numbers suggest the coaches will have something to work with: 4.62 isn't chopped liver for an ILB. The 39" VJ and 10-5 BJ numbers are elite or close to it (and are indicators of explosiveness). There are no shuttle scores so there's no indicator of agility.

3. The beauty of OTA's, Minis and Training Camp is that "regardless of how a player got to the practices, he's now on even terms with every one else fighting for a roster spot and it becomes "230 lb Dude A vs. 231 lb Dude B vs. 229 lb C." There no doubt will be a few surprises.

From Johnson's standpoint, why shouldn't it be him?

I dont know anything about Chris Johnson but he does seem to have something about him on the very very little footage i can see on youtube

I know a little bit about Deryn Bowser as he was at a JC out there in the south bay region of LA about four years ago when i was stationed out there myself. I used to go to local games when i had off days and i remember there being a bit of hype about him as he had tore up the scene all year and when i saw him i was impressed. From what i remember he was a very good catcher of the ball full stop and doesnt let bruising tackles or flying cornerbacks stop him from doing so. He has great hands and gets good reads on the directions of the ball and combines this with an excellent leap. He was also a very good carrier of the ball after the catch and very physical with it as well ala Boldin but he lacked any real route running abilities and wasnt able to shake off CB's at anytime though that seemed to be part of his game as he seemed to just enjoy roasting them all the time.

The only reason i remembered that was cause id heard in the fall of that year that Penn State was possibly thinking of bringing him aboard but i dont know why that never materialised. I guess they didn't see much in him and i was a little disappointed.

Who only made the team because the Cards were so devoid of talent after the Buddy Ryan fiasco. The good old days of Ray Thompson, Terry Irving, Tony McCombs, Zach Walz, and Johnny Rutledge.

McKinnon made the team because he was a good player...not great but solid. The guy made more plays in one game for the Cardinals against Chicago than Eric Hill did in his entire career.

So he had one big game in his 10 year career.

A guy like McKinnon couldn't even make the team in 2010. The Cards defense finished in the bottom seven of the NFL in either yards allowed or points allowed every year he was on the team until Green came in 2004.

And one of the first things Green said after taking the job was that he was surprised how weak the Cards were at Linebacker.

Not so fast...

He was no stud, but with the condition of Hayes back, and Beisel and Walker for depth, it would be nice to have a guy like McKinnon around this season.

For now, I am hoping for Walker's play to be a pleasant surprise...

You're right because Walker is a McKinnon. But once again a guy like McKinnon in the person of Walker is only on the team because of a real lack of talent at the ILB postitions.

Walker and Lenon starting ILBs! God help us!
