He was good last year so.... not funny?

It wasn't a knock on Robbie. If you can't see the humor in the guys were spending close to 300 million on not getting a win before Ray, then I apologize

Worst ERA in baseball after 4 games. It can't get worse. Today was a good start.

'So good to see our big guy, Goldie, keep us in the game with two RBI singles in a pitchers' battle.

Home field advantage and Tomas came through with a soft liner.

The play of the game, and the emotional boost the D-backs needed, was when Peralta came in to cover 1B on a rundown-out at 3B to complete the double play.

As Steve and BB said, that was the kind of moment that Chip was talking about with the players before the game. Play loose and good things will happen.

Robbie Ray didn't pitch his best, but he kept it close.

I'm expecting good things from the starting staff on this second go-round.

As far as the comments posted about Chip batting Ahmed 9th, that is a La Russa strategy. And, so far, Nick hit well in that capacity, then bombed yesterday batting 2nd, in front of Goldy. Go figure!

RR pitched well but he needs to keep the walks down and thus keep his PC down. I see a lot of potential there.

I agree. I just wish he wouldn't pitch with his tongue out. That image doesn't really put fear into the batters. And I'd be afraid to see him react to a comebacker with his tongue between his teeth. :)

Awesome game!

I thought last year and still believe that Robbie has a ton of potential. He's not an ace, but can be a solid 3 in the majors. His biggest flaw to me is that he just cant seem to get guys out. He gets ahead in so many counts and then either lets guys start fouling balls off, or he walks them. Just needs to go after more guys IMO. He doesn't have a great put out pitch, but he is already throwing that breaking ball better than he was last year. I think he needs to go to it more becuase his fast ball is not overwhelming, hence guys ability to foul off so many pitches.

For some reason I feel like the season has officially started now. The Dbacks were clearly wound tight as a drum, even in this game. Just not the loose group that they need to be. I think there was just a ton of expectations and hype and then it starts bad and you kinda get that feeling... Tonight might be just what the Dr. ordered. A big win against a good team at home, and it was a great baseball game. The high scoring ones are great once in a while, but there is something about winning a game like this that builds a teams confidence.

Our ace vs their number 5 tomorrow.. Then Arrieta vs Miller Sunday. I'd be stoked with a 2-2 split in this series

Maybe it's because I'm out of town and not exposed to the local market hype machine, but I'm not sure where all of these expectations are coming from. Predicting 95+ wins and such.

Aside from Grienke, we don't have any reliable SP, the BP was going to be an issue going into the season, and the offense was likely to regress in production from last years career years. That was BEFORE losing AJP for likely the season.

I signed up for season tickets last October as I loved where the team was heading. I'm not a numbers guy, but to the eye I liked what I was seeing. I also couldn't look away from all the rings sitting in the front office. They don't play the game, but all our decision makers know how to win.

As for starting pitching, we've replaced Chase Anderson & Jeremy Hellickson with Greinke & Miller, and I'm of the opinion Corby will be in the Cy Young discussion this season. I'll take Clippard, Hudson, and Ziegler all day long to close things out. Sucks losing AJ, but I really believe Peralta is the real deal, and Segura may turn out to be the pick up of the year. Defense wins championships as they say, and last night it was defense that finally loosened up the gripping so to speak. Ahmed is a beauty to watch at SS.

I predicted 93, and gave Vegas a few sheckles betting on over 81.5 wins.

Well, don't you think it's telling that Vegas has a line of 81.5?

I mean, fans are gonna think what they will, but it just surprises me is all.

In an effort to not worry to much about this start, in other words, convincing myself, lol, I offer this stat.

The Rockies and Cubs do lead the MLB in OPS thus far. Now whether that indicates that they are two really good hitting ball clubs, or that they just benefited from our bad pitching early, well that remains to be seen.

But I do think that we started the year against two really hot hitting teams. There were stretches today where Greinke looked like himself. He seems to be having a hard time with his consistency.

My theory is that it's just a matter of routine. Pitching and baseball is such a mental game, and when you are taken out of your comfort zone, you enter a new locker room, a new organization and add to all that the weight of the world in terms of expectations... It's just a lot. I'm not making excuses, I know that even with all that it's unacceptable for a guy getting paid as much as he is to pitch like this, I'm just saying I dont believe it's going to continue.

Lets all just wait a couple more starts to see how he settles in before we totally lose it about his salary. I'm pretty sure even if he has a bad year, he's not going to have an ERA of 9.9 God let's hope not. lol

Greinke looked like his old self after the first inning. Ended up with 8 k's in 6 innings.... I think he may have finally found it after that first inning.
Like Ruby coming out of the pen.
We had 4 hits...two by Drury. Won't win any games with that type of pathetic offense..

Hopefully Greinke continues the way he threw from the 2nd inning on. Maybe he finds his groove on the road. Let's hope! We need him to or this is going to be another long summer

I'm not a gambler so I couldn't begin to tell you how Vegas works, but if I remember right there weren't many that much higher, and they had the AZ Cardinals over-under at 6 or 7 this last season.

Good news is the bullpen was solid last night again. I sit on the 3rd base side and had to do a double take when I saw De LaRosa come in from the bullpen. It will be interesting to see if he ends up there this season, as many think he's best suited in that role. Bradley had a solid start first time out in Reno as well.

Risky business to gamble and not know the odds.

Of course the team may break out and run off 95+ wins, but the odds are just as good they tank and plop down 69. Either way, there is just as much a chance they win more than 82 than they win less. It's why I picked 82 in the win prediction thread.
