Darnell out for 2014 with ACL injury

Man what a brutal loss. I feel so bad for Dockett, absolutely devastated, almost like a friend or family got hurt. Guy is a fearless player that always leaves his heart and soul on the field. It's going to be weird going to battle without him. I am going to rock the 9-0 jersey to all the home games in his honor this year.

Calais was #2 ---- now he would have been a devastating loss.

10 seasons is a long run in the NFL. I'd be surprised if he makes it back to his dominant form again. T Suggs has been a shell of himself since the surgery. I can't think of any DL to come back and control the line as Dockett did. Bad day for all Cards fans.

Yeah I remember peeps here bashing Los the 1st time he left saying he was easily replaceable. LEADERS don't grow on trees & aren't made IMO.

Dockett wasn't much of a leader as a young guy IMO. He was constantly making mental errors and setting a bad example as a result his first 5 or so years on the team IMO. He's matured and become a leader. They absolutely CAN be made.

Also, Keim has drafted almost exclusively guys who were team captains in college the past 2 years, so if you believe true leaders are born and not made, you should take comfort in that.

If not him, there is nobody else. I love CC, but I just don't see the onfield leadership qualities you need from a guy who commands that role... Dansby had it. Dock of course had it. A-Dub had it...

I guess, but it's extremely rare for a corner to have that kind of impact as a leader. Deion wasn't a leader like that! neither is/was Champ Bailey. they're playing out on an island, the furthest player from that ball. If they're doing their job, they only get tested once or twice a game.

A guy like dockett makes an impact on almost every play. Literally at the center of the action.

still 30th is important, We aint getting anyone better, anytime soon. I had my knee cramp and pop last Monday, felt like a rubber band let loose behind my knee cap - I was just serving this nation's veterans. it hurt quite enough for this old soldier. I figure it will continue hurting for some time. Waiting for an MRI, not that it matters much, just have a current understanding.

I stayed near Ferguson Mo, on I70 the night of the 8th -left before the shooting on the 9th, coming back from VA training in St Louis - another Forest Gump moment for theSmel. Hope all make it through this night, and this time.

I bought some mint St Louis Football Cardinal drinking Glasses, have some extras if anybody wants to trade for Cardinal merchandise. I have Phoenix and Arizona glasses, be neat to find a Chicago Cardinal glass.

Keep in mind that Dockett went from a kid discovering his mother's body Ito the Pro Bowl. There's no one in the NFL more mentally tough.

Losing Calais would've been much more catastrophic; however, it doesn't do much to lessen the sting of Dockett.

With what this group dealt with last year at OLB, I'm confident they can adjust for the loss of Dock this season. He is a great motivator and captain, but his production can be matched or surpassed. Rucker has been playing better than Dock lately.. I was recently wondering how many snaps Dock would lose because Rucker looked so much better. Get some depth behind Rucker and the team will be OK.

I find this hard to accept. If it was all that easy we'd have done it before Dockett tore his ACL. Every now and then the "Next Man Up" slogan holds up but most of the time it's just three words thrown together that mean very little in the real world. Losing Dockett doesn't end our season for us but we were already skating on thin ice.

I never wish any opponent something to do with his health but some are happy for what happened to DD
how can some ppl go that low? over football !!!!

Age and major knee surgery will force him to take a significant salary cut, whether he stays here or goes elsewhere.

If there's a silver-lining in this injury, it's that bringing him back next season just became significantly easier as his market value has plummeted and Dockett doesn't have much of a leg to stand on in negotiations (literally and figuratively). This is, of course, if the team feels he's able to come back in 2015 and play somewhat respectable football.
