Per Florio:

“I’m honored and humbled to be back in the National Football League,” [blah blah blah]

Sounds like a Redemption Song to me!!!
I'm sure when his agent drafted that statement, he wanted to focus on the positive and the rainbows and sunshine in the future, rather than the dark clouds in the past... but it would've been nice to see an apology to the Cardinals, his teammates, and his fans in there somewhere.

I've said it in prior posts about this topic but I would be pissed if we didn't try and get him back on the field. Like I said before, if we felt strongly enough about the situation to cut him then we should have done it years ago regardless of cap implications. So if we waited this long to drag this thing out then they better at least kick the tires. I'd be irked if we cut him and he goes on to have a productive career elsewhere.

I cannot imagine his discussion with SK and ownership would be nothing but trying to trade away Washington for any value they might be able to get.

Screw this guy. He assaulted a woman. I don't care where he goes or what he does.

OK, I will state with some confidence he will be given a chance because the Cards have just post his reinstatement on their facebook profile... you do not do this as an organization unless you mean to keep him
The news just broke, so they needed to issue some kind of statement. It's been a 3yr saga.

Listened to Jurecki on 910. Here's what he said in a nutshell:

  • D-Wash has been telling Jurecki for weeks that he was going to be reinstated, but Jurecki didnt go public with it because he's been lied to by D-Wash a couple of times
He's probably not the first to be lied to by DWash.

Players are genuinely excited about his reinstatement

Of course they are, the NFL is a brotherhood.

He might not be suspended for the DV incident, citing that it may have been rolled into the weed suspension
There hasn't been much on this, so it's quite possible. I imagine the union might have something to say about this too. Time will tell.

If brought back, D-Wash's contract will likely be torn up and he'll have to sign an incentive-laden contract
Why would they tear up his contract? If they do that he becomes a FA and could sign anywhere.

I groan while saying it, but if we're truly all-in for this year... bring him to camp.
This is still just a conditional reinstatement. We might be getting ahead of ourselves until it becomes a full reinstatement.

Per Florio:

“I’m honored and humbled to be back in the National Football League,” Washington said in a statement provided to PFT. “These last three years have been the most difficult of my life without the game I love so much. That said, I’ve used this time to make tremendous strides as a man and have grown into a proud husband, father, and contributing member of my community."

“Physically I’m in the best shape of my life and have maintained a strenuous six-day per week workout plan for over a year in anticipation of this day and next season,” Washington said. “I understand the physical and mental demands that it takes to be an All-Pro linebacker in this League, and I fully intend to play at that level this season.

“I’d like to thank Commissioner Goodell and his staff who I’ve met with multiple times, my attorney Daniel Moskowitz for all of his work on my journey back, my amazing teammates who I’ve stayed in contact with, and most importantly, my family for all of their unconditional support. As I told Mr. Goodell, I will use this opportunity to help lead and mentor younger guys in the locker room and in my community to learn from my mistakes and understand it’s an honor to be in the NFL.”

Sounds like a Redemption Song to me!!!

Dude is gonna come back and be a beast, I have no doubts. His body has missed 3 years of the brutal pounding of the NFL.

I'm for the Cards giving him a chance to make the team. If he doesn't have it anymore then cut him. Nothing to lose.

No way will he be ready for the season.

If he's been working out stringently six days a week, I wouldn't say he's not. He's claiming he's in great shape, and it's not exactly hard for a pro athlete to retain the right kind of trainer to stay in close-to-football shape.

As a person, I am pulling for him. I hope he can salvage what time he has left and help others learn from his mistakes. I really, really hope he can pull this off. Here or elsewhere.

Close-to-football shape, eh? He hasn't done it since '13. He can be at peak condition for a normal person, but he'll be nowhere NEAR football shape.

Close enough to football shape that months of OTAs and training camp can get him into football shape. He has just as much time as any rookie that we're drafting, who are all in "workout shape," not football shape.

If his statement is truly sincere, I'd sure hate to see him make the Pro Bowl for another team.

This is one of my concerns. Imagine cutting him on principle and he goes to the Seahawks and pushes them over the top.

I understand and appreciate that people don't want him back. Heck, I don't know if I want him back. But I do think people deserve second chances (I know wah wah wah he had chances to not smoke weed) and it always bugs me when people basically advocate that someone should be on the street for life because they screwed up. He has lost MILLIONS of dollars and 3 years of his life. It's time for him to get a second chance if he really has finally turned it around. In the general sense at the very least.
He had a second chance after he was suspended four games for the same offense. And that was his second chance after the first time getting popped for weed that landed him in the program in the first place.

Do you believe in fourth chances, too?

Who all last played football months, not YEARS, ago. Bad analogy.
