Coaching is costing us right now. Every team will lose a laugher, so it's last nights loss that really hurts. Now, we have Williams running us into outs? Down 7-1 going to the bottom of 7th. Maybe Gibby and Williams need a breather, Prado and Montero need to pull there head out of there ass, and the rest of the team needs to start producing with RISP.

Miley was left out there way too long IMHO. He was getting rocked. Both times matt Williams sent runners home were bad calls. Live and learn, let's get them tomorrow

Matt W has been doing the same for years, he can't Live and Learn. Fire his sorry azz. He was a good 3rd bagger but he has no situational baseball mind.

Put that one in the book and burn it. Time to get back in the W column tomorrow night. While Montero is struggling at the plate, Nieves was not good behind the plate tonight. Need bats to wake up, Goldy can't win them all.

Miley didn't have it last night.... It happens.
The bigger problem is how this team continues to choke with RISP. There is truly no way to sustain winning when you epically fail time and time again with RISP. Just wont happen.
And when you add in the fact that Goldy is truly our sole run producer, well, it can get ugly real fast.
Prado is at least showing signs if life at the plate. But aside from Parra and some occasional production from Pollack, we got squat outside of Goldy...
We are seriously missing Hill and the lack of any offensive threat from Miggy is absolutely killing us! We are placing WAY too much pressure on our pitching staff...

Yeah no doubt, he did get better in the 2nd half last year tho. The whole time Ross was rounding 3rd I knew he wasn't going to make it, he was winded and barely jogging.

I agree with all but the bold. Offense has been piss poor, very frustrating to watch TBH. Nothing worse than having a leadoff double, and knowing in my head that we probably won't score.

As far as putting pressure on the pitching staff, hmm, on the starters MAYBE.. But the bullpen has failed time and time again to close out games that our offense has given them the lead.

As far as the starters go, it's not like our offense is costing them wins. Brandon McCarthy has a 5.63 ERA, Ian Kennedy has a 4.83 ERA. Cahill is pulling it together as of late, but he doesn't usually go deep into games. Nothing bad to say about Corbin this year, kids been a freak out there.

Both starters and the pen. What we don't know is how our starters would perform if they knew they didn't have to be picture perfect each time they take the mound...and our pen is constantly placed in leveraged situations, where they are always entering the game with runners on base that can either tie the game or give the opposition the lead if they score... Compare that to Mariano who hardly ever inherits runners, and in the rare instance be does, most of the time it's not such a highly leveraged situation as our pen faces...
That's all about our offense and their inability to create space from the opposing team...

That "wild pitch" in the 5th inning that allowed the runners to advance was just terrible. Not really sure how that was even labeled a wp and not a passed ball. The game turned right there IMO.

Montero in the 6 spot and Chavez in the 4th. Looks like they are trying to keep them from pitching around red hot Goldy.

Bell enters the 9th with a 2-0 lead. Sound familiar? Let's hope the results are different this time.

Different results for Bell this time as the Diamondbacks win 2-0. Bell was throwing some gas tonight and Corbin is now 6-0.

Corbin has been lighting it up this year. 6-0 with a 1.5 era in what 8 appearences? Those are some impressive numbers.

Good win, but can we start scoring more than 2-3 runs per game? Bats are cold right now, especially with RISP.

I would love to see the W-L record of the Dbacks when Chavez plays vs. when he doesn't. It just SEEMS like they win every time he starts.

Here is a perfect example of why you need to understand stats and learn to not trust the eyes. Brian says it seems like every game Chavez starts, the D-Backs win, while in reality the D-Backs are 10-9.

I kinda disagree with this. I think on field observation is critical to understanding the game, but I think you should look at the results in data form to validate or dispute that observation. That's how you can learn when to trust and when not to trust and that's how you can develop your observation skill if you want to learn about this game. Despite some that believe the game was solved 50 years ago, there is always more to learn and different ways to think about this great game.

True, very true. Stats can go to the extreme in a bad way though. I have personally never liked WAR in baseball. If a guy has a WAR of +3.0, there are still situations where you would pinch hit for him with a guy of a WAR under 1. But a stat freak prob wouldn't make that move. Nothing in baseball is garunteed.

I don't see how stats go to the extreme, but I do see how people dismiss stats when they don't understand them or they make them look wrong ( see Avondale Red Rage) or they misuse them because they don't fully understand them, but you don't blame the hammer for the carpenters ineptitude.

Baseball, being a game of situational states and individual performances lends itself to statistical analysis more so than any other team sport.

WAR is about more than batting so yes, I could easily see a situation where you pinch hit Delmon Young (-0.9 WAR in 2012) for Alberto Callaspo (2.9 WAR in 2012). I don't think your projection of what a "stat geek" would or wouldn't do and that you know better than them holds water.
