Dockett must not have liked the negotiations that took place today

He's not going anywhere in the division. He's said multiple times that he would retire before going to SF, the Rams are loaded on the D-line and Seattle won't be able to afford him. I'd offer the guy 2 years at 10 million and guarantee all of it. We know what he brings as a leader and I can only laugh at the people questioning his age/coming off injury. I've seen this man work in the offseason with my own eyes and even trained with him a few times. He is gonna come back from this like it didn't happen.

he did mention how great the fans at candlestick were before

This guy can talk about loyalty to the organization vs. chasing money (re: Dansby) all he wants, but when it comes to money, he has a track record of being anything but.

disagree. Yes he wanted a better deal because he was far outperforming but that was a long time ago. things have changed, he has aged, he has become more ingrained as a cardinal for life. I bet we just offered too little and i bet we raise our offer slightly in a way to make him happy.

Hey Darnell, how much did you get paid last year to stand on the sidelines? Wanna give any of that back?

I think you are way off base here. The guy deserves to be compensated for his job.

Also he didn't choose to be hurt last year. It's part of the job. Something that will affect him later in life as well.

Maybe I am. But players only seem to think of the "Fairness" of their pay in one direction. Injuries are a reality and I am glad getting injured doesn't cost a guy his salary for the year. But aging is a reality too.

For a 31-year-old coming off a major injury to expect to keep his $9.8 million cap hit when the team improved without him on the field...well, he needs a reality check too.

do you believe he expects them to pay him 10mil a year?

its more realistic that hw wants 3-4 and we offered 1.5-2. Something like that IMO

I hope that is the case. Or it could be that he is offended that they'd ask him to give back one cent of what was promised to him. Hope I am wrong, but hearing DD talk $ over the years makes me wonder where his head is at.

I would bet the farm that hes not asking for 10mil a year or to keep his current cap hit. He knows its paycut or cut.

Not to nitpick but he will be 34 in May and in this game the difference between 31 and 34 is expressed $$$$. Only validates your point more. I think its about principle to him so not sure this ends well.

Thanks for catching that. I don't know what I was thinking!

I'm okay with $3-3.5M but not anymore than that. DD needs to realize if he is let go, then he probably doesn't even sniff that kind of money from anyone else and neither the Hags nor the Whiners are going to pay DD that kind of money just to get his knowledge of the defense.

Remember when we all held up signs at training camp up in Flag... "Pay 9 - 0"

Fans should now hold up signs that say... "Stay 9 -0"

Dockett needs to feel love. #stay9-0

If 10's of millions of dollars for average play hasn't made him feel love.. Then nothing will.

I love these kinds of threads. I am as guilty as anyone giving my opinion on someone else's money. LOL

DD needs to take whatever he can and leave whatever he doesn't like. The owners have no hesitation to kick players to the curb. He has a contract and if they lowball him, in HIS opinion, he can tell them to shove it. Then, the Cards can cut him and move on or pay him.

I hope that DD and the Cards can work it out, he's one of my favorite players. But, if not, that is the way it goes sometimes.

Totally agree, would like to see him finish career as a Cardinal but he needs to be realistic on contract numbers.

This, getting injured, physical pain, pain that will affect you later in life... is actually earning that paycheck too!

How many 34 year old DE`s coming back after missing a whole season are effective players?Sentiment says keep him around out of loyalty (which means loyalty trumps money sometimes) or be a cold rational businessman and say play for this money amount or we will release you. What does DD do if training camp shows that he has nothing left and is a shell of his former self? How will DD handle that when that happens?

Pretty sure D90 will know what he has left in the tank before training camp. When my physical skills diminished,...there was a slight dip,..then BOOM!! It was gone almost over night

If Dockett and the Cards do end up parting ways, I could see him getting 7-9 sacks next season...6-8 of them against us.

Dockett deserves to get as much money as he can. He has a short playing career window and he doesn't owe anyone anything. I hope we are the team to pay him, but there is a limit in terms of his value. My only issue if he leaves would be that he ripped on Dansby last year for doing the same thing. Get paid brother.

Totally agree, that's how it happens. One day you're just done. People act like it's Jerry Rice times, like a gradual decline, but that's rare because he was such an amazing physical freak. Same thing with Adub, though he was in obvious decline for years. But those are HOF'ers. For most athletes it's quick and obvious.

I believe Dock is much more loyal than Dansby. We'll see. What I do know is Dock always talks about the team, Dansby just talked about himself.
