And have fun suffering losing records with a bad one-two vet QB combination. I'd rather have a chance at a real QB and not rely on never-has-been retreads.

Which QB is this? You keep saying the Cardinals need a "real QB" but never give a name...

so...you think they are running an nflGM ebay in there during draft day is that it??

Two GM's will haggle for about thirty seconds and a deal will either be done or it wont...of course the guy selling will say things like "gimme your best offer because I got buffalo and new orleans on hold and I gotta go"... and the buyer will say things like, "you aint gonna get a better offer than this and you know it".... yada, yada, flash in the pan .. and its either done or it isnt...

if elway dont like Keims offer, stevie will call the guys who have six and try and set up a backup deal just in case whoever buys five dont take his guy

what you will not have, is elway playing auctioneeer and other GM's steadily tossing out more and more compensation for a trade

the nice part about 15....with all the QB frenzy early...a top 10 type player will still be on the board at 15... but not really after 15...its kinda the end of the line for the blue chip type guys in this draft.
These deals have already been talked about in terms of general framework. Every team has an idea of what other team is willing to give up for a move there... rarely do these moves come completely out of the blue in round 1.

Arizona already knows what the Giants are looking for, the Broncos are looking for, everyone up to their pick. Yes, the devil will be in the details when a team's "guy" pops up, but it won't be a totally new concept to either side.

You could easily argue that the approach you are describing, Stout, is a much safer way to eventually getting fired, and thus end up in the same situation as Solar describes as risking your livelihood, than taking a shot at becoming a very good team. Staying mediocre in the NFL is the surefire way to the unemployment line.
Not if you field a competitive roster and win the 5th most games in the league over that span... as Keim has proven, it gets you an extension.

What would have gotten Keim fired faster? Giving up 4th and 6th round picks for Carson Palmer, or even just starting Drew Stanton? Or trading all the way up for Blake Bortles?

Keim's job would have been over had he "risked it all" for Blake Bortles, who he liked a lot. If your team is really good, you can convince an owner that it's possible to keep winning with bandaid QBs. If your team is garbage and can't make the playoffs because all of your assets are tied up into a player you pushed all of the chips in on, you're screwed, there's no coming back from it.

Definitely not trying to attack the poster here, but it's clear that there's a lot of people with this idea that "any QB" is worth the move up, so we can prove that Keim has "guts."

I did just today on another thread: 1)Darnold 2)Rosen and 3)Mayfield. Darnold is my top choice, and the only one I set forth what I'd be willing to trade. If we don't have to trade up, I'd take a shot on Allen, Rudolph, or Jackson.

It's all just wind, though, because we aren't taking a QB in the 1st, and certainly aren't trading up in the 1st for one.

Are you saying the GMs have not been negotiating with one another during the weeks leading up to the draft?

As soon as Elway announced he was willing to trade pick #5, his phone was rattling with calls from around the league---pretty sure he was playing auctioneer and gathering up bids from interested teams.

Why would any GM leave such an important decision alone until minutes left on the pick clock during draft day???

I posted in another thread that the Cards were one of 5 teams to contact the Broncos about the #5 pick.

OK I must have missed that. Thanks for clarifying.

So basically you would be happy with any of the top 6 QBs but would only trade for Darnold, Rosen or Mayfield.

Stout---You responded to my question (at #136) on this thread with your answers to QB and also how much you were willing to trade (at post #145 and #150).

Do you believe that every single QB you list above has a chance to succeed as a franchise QB?

If Elway is willing to trade down from #5 and leave either one-two-three of the QBs on the board, what is that saying about his rating for the QBS in this draft?

He has Keenum and Lynch on the roster---is he rating those two guys above the QB left to select at #5???

Says you!

I’ve slready stated this once, Keim needs to sell that’s he’s likely selling off a top 10 pick next seasons & probably higher.

According to the draft chart, the donkeys come out of this trade over 400 points ahead & that’s based off of next years one being #15 like this which won’t happen.

I originally had a 3rd on it but removed it thinking we could swing this deal. I think think the deal could get made regardless of what you do. I think everyone here is going overboard with the price but we shall see.

When it comes to QBs you can throw the draft chart out the window. There are enough QB desperate teams to jack up the price.

Kyle Odegard tweeted some theory-crafting on estimated cost. Obviously only includes draft capital and not players.

I don’t believe it. So the jets would slide from 3 to 15 and only ask for another mid round 1st next year? How does that help their team?

Panic is starting to set in over here for me.

I'm going to become the biggest darksider this board has to offer if we move into the top 5.

You can't state the case for not trading up any better than you have.

It will be totally out of character and against everything SK has done in his tenure and also in this year's FA period for him to now move on a QB. Perhaps the Cards see something very special in one of the candidates and are willing now to withdraw their life savings to make the purchase?

Even if the Cards give up several top picks in future drafts realize we have a lot of cap space next year. We may not have a 1 and/or a 2 draft pick next year but we will be able to sign FA's to take the place of the missing picks.

dont panic man. it is not in keims nature nor his history to make a major move up.
when you calculate the odds, he is far more likely to trade back a few spots...if he does trade up it is also far more likely that the guy he likes slid to 8-10...trading into the top five...nah, not steve keim

this stuff is just media guys trying to generate a buzz with their names attached to it

I think you will chill out if we are fortunate enough to land the Touchdown Maker or Rosen if we’re able to make the move & we’re competing for World Championships for years & years

I told you guys it’s not gonna take three 1s & two 2s lol

It's really going to have to take less than two 1s (this year and next's) and this year's 2 for me not to freak out. And we're not getting anything near that. If we do, I guess I'll do cartwheels.

It’s really only one #1 in reality because you’re getting one in return so chill lol

You live in Dallas I believe Buckybird. Fly on down to Texas Oaken. We will then proceed to go to the draft, liquor up the Cardinal staff at that strip club Dallas calls a facility for the draft, and enact our mother of all trades to finally get a franchise QB :)
I’m going to the draft so trust me my super powers will be zeroed into Keim’s mind as he sits in the war room by Michael in his Cards polo & depends lol
