It’s funny to read how we were predicted to win 3-5 games and now that we’ve won 3 games MO sucks.
I think it means he certainly didn’t exceed expectations, no? And when expectations are so low, well what does that say about how good you are? If everyone has low expectations for you, and you met those low expectations . . . not exactly a resume builder.

Nah man. It doesn't work that way. This is a new GM, new HC. They are still tidying up the bad decisions from the previous regime.
Front office is always one year away from being held accountable for their decisions.

Surely drafting top 3 again in 2025 would be a poor mark on their record.

Sometimes we lose sight of the entire picture even when it’s hindsight.

MO took over this team that was in total shambles from top to bottom. He inherited a less than desirable cap situation, an injured qb that was and is an enigma, their best wr who didn’t want to be here and a roster, who by every evaluator in the NFL said it wa the worst roster in football.

I’ve watched a team that fought 99% of the time and is just outmanned. I commend MO for taking over a house that was burnt to the ground and not starting over but building the roof.

We could have easily had 5 maybe 6 wins when we examine the season as it unfolded ( Commanders, Giants). Would we have declared MO’s first season a success?

Lots of things to be unhappy about but I think it’s a bit premature to bury MO this quickly.

He wasted nothing as of yet because the story has yet to be told, tell me what he wasted and you have to remember this is the first year of a totally new regime and leftover players from the past who maybe did not adhere to their vision and what they feel they need to do in the future. They did not mortgage the future unless their vision and what they acquire fails in the upcoming seasons
Oh? We can time travel back to the offseason last year and he can sign some FAs to help the rebuild long term? No? Then he wasted the last FA period. It's in the past and I don't need to see the future to realize that.

Again, no one is burying him. The exaggeration of People’s position on this board is at pandemic levels lately. It’s okay to be critical of a player’s, coach’s, GM’s season without saying can him or bury him. I swear some of you don’t understand shades of gray.

I would agree with you if we were a 7-8 game winning team. Any free agents we would have signed this year would not have made a bit of difference and those same players could be signed next year.

Uh, if they were signed to multi-year deals last offseason they literally can’t be signed next year. They’ve been removed from the market.

What Ouchie said. And you know we're allowed to sign FAs to multi-year deals, right? So they can help us be good next year and the year after?

It's not an either or. It wasn't a matter of only signing one-year prove it deals or no deals at all beyond Kyzir White.

I get you. I’m saying going from 4 wins to 3 wins doesn’t necessarily translate into worse.
We headed into last year with aspirations of competing for a playoff spot and ended up with 4 wins. That’s 3 giant steps backwards.
This year we all were expecting nothing much at all and got a little less.
There are many different shades of gray.

95% of the teams drafting top 3 aren't ready to compete for a couple of years.

I don't really think that's true but depends on your definition of compete. With the draft capital they have if they draft well (like the Texans did) and use the good amount of cap space they have they can compete next year, if whichever QB they draft is any good.

As I say, depends on your definition. Can they win 7-9 games and be in the playoff hunt with Maye? Sure they can, with the resources they have. Will we be SB contenders? Nope, not for a couple of years at least with some luck.

This really all comes down to how good your QB is. The 2021 11-5 team was pretty trash to be honest. That was not an 11-5 roster but it was elevated by a stretch of good QB play. If we draft a QB that can play then anything is possible.
I’d agree.. although over 80% of teams picking #1 overall and choosing a QB have made the playoffs within 3 years. That’s pretty darn high..

The other caveat would be teams picking in the top 3 missing their “franchise” player due to injury. Ya, ya - whether Kyler will ever be franchise or not is debatable and even shamed by the loud voices here. I’m not convinced either but once again I will say give him a competent roster next year and let’s see…. Not bc Kyler HAS to have a competent roster but any relevant QB does.

If this off season we do the same I swear I will be very disappointed. At this point I’m just not disappointed in who we didn’t sign or how long we signed the guys we did sign.

Here’s my thing with the Purdy’s just a game manager folks… he’s barely even started a full season of football. Even if he was just a “game manager”, how many other 7th round QBs can come in their first year and go 8-0. And before you answer that, try and remember that when Brock took over, that team was only 5-4 before he started. The ability to come in to a high pressure situation and be a steady hand IMMEDIATELY, but also go on to help sail the boat to new heights, as a rookie no less, is unheard of… especially for the last pick in the entire draft!

EVERYONE here totally wrote the Niners off when he took the reins. And yet he not only kept the Niners in it, the team played MUCH better the moment he took over. And then, despite the Niners having “an all-star team around Purdy” they cratered horrifically in the playoffs the SECOND he got injured. That wasn’t all because he got injured but it sure as hell didn’t help. They immediately became a total train wreck.

And what happened when he got injured? People here were saying he was probably done for THIS season.

But… he wasn’t done. He came back from the injury and despite there being a lot of tape on him from last season, he was even better this season than he was last season.

None of that is the hallmark of just a game manager. Those are qualities of a really good young QB, IMO. Maybe not MVP, but to be able to handle that kind of pressure, having that kind of poise, not making mistakes and making the absolute best of opportunities given is impressive for any QB. And again, this all happened IMMEDIATELY as a 7th round rookie.
This is why I give him all the credit he deserves. People are so quick to trot out the "X amount of qb's could succeed with this team" argument, but do we know that for a fact? There's something to be said for his poise and leadership which has largely been intact this entire season. This is not to say that he's the best thing since sliced bread. I'm not even ready to give him "elite' status yet, but I'm just saying that he is a good quarterback, and his record speaks for itself. It's just too easy to move the goalpost to fit an agenda. I'm not buying it.

Well, yeah. You have been talking about signing someone like Pittman Jr which would a full 180 from the signing philosophy.

My personal guess is we do something like re-sign Brown for about 10-12 million next year, sign a 2nd tier free agent CB in about the same range, and maybe a C, G or DT for about the same or less. This after some minor extensions and re-signing of other guys on the roster.

Completely agree.. it was a lost season before the start knowing we weren’t moving off Kyler and unknown when he was coming back from a major injury. I am happy with the result of picking likely #2 overall and good cap space to make some major moves.

Multiple seasons of play like this. You want to crown the kid when he literally plays with amongst the best supporting casts I've ever seen. And while his numbers are good they aren't historically good by any stretch.

No I literally think it's hilarious that you're on this kids jock so much. I think there are easily 15 QBs who are better. I see no special traits at all.

<<<<<STRAWMAN ALERT>>>>>

Where did I say he is a game manager? Just search my post history (I just did) and I have never said that. I literally said he's a pretty good QB, but not special by any stretch. He's probably the 15th best QB in the NFL which is a nice find with the last pick in the draft.
15th?? Oooph.....

I disagree with about every part of this.

Now, for the first time in quite a while, it doesn't "all come down to how good your QB is." Gardner Minshew, Mr. Irrelevant 2022, Geno Smith, Baker Mayfield, and Joe Freaking Flacco are all starting playoff games if the season ended today.

The 2021 team was loaded. What a bizarre retcon this is. We were 11th in points scored and points allowed. We had two pro bowlers on offense and defense. Byron Murphy had 12 passes defensed and four picks. Budda Baker had three INTs. We had two double-digit sack guys in Golden and Chandler Jones. The offensive weapons on that team included Hop, Christian Kirk, A.J. Green, and Zach Ertz.

Our conversation is done. This is a ridiculous statement which I believe would get you laughed out of any coaching room in the entire nfl.
He's short.

Small.

Doesn't have a big time arm.

Isn't fast.

It's a factual statement. He was literally taken with a pick that you never find a good player at.
