By passer rating and QBR Kyler still sits well outside the top 6-8 quarterbacks in the league and in that 9-16 muddle. That's why it's a challenge to consider replacing him. It's pretty stunning that Kyler hasn't meaningfully improved since his rookie season, and in some critical ways maybe has gotten worse.

There are some QBs who don't really "get their teams to the playoffs" -- there are 2-3 every year. I'd point to Pittsburgh and Green Bay this past season, Cleveland, Philly, and Pittsburgh the year before. My POV has consistently been that you do everything you can to make the playoffs consistently -- sooner or later you're likely to break through. I think that Kyler can be a guy that doesn't put you out of the running to make the playoffs. I want to see a couple more chances before I decide he really is Kirk Cousins But Runs.
Actually a really good take… my question would be whose playoff roster last year in regards to supporting cast from top to bottom do you think AZ has been even close to?

I'm not really gonna go position by position, but it doesn't take a lot of imagination to think we can achieve the 16th ranked offense/8th ranked defense of Pittsburgh, 20th ranked offense/17th ranked defense of the Rams (they had a negative point differential! Not enough people are talking about this), or the 19th ranked offense/14th ranked defense of the Texans.

Ranked statistical typically doesn’t tell all the story.. point in proof; your boy Kyler. When statistically at the top, he’s discounted and rightly should have been this past season.

You can’t state with a straight face our defense was even half as good as the Steelers..and in reality our offense wasn’t better than Steelers. Maybe close to equal offensively. Top to bottle Steelers by a landslide side as that was a top 3 defense in the league beyond the statistics. It carried that team.

Rams - roster was better on both sides of the ball by at least 75%. McBride and Paris on offense.. hard to choose JC over Kyrien. Toss up maybe. Then defense same thing, at least 8 of their starters would replace 8 of our defensive starters.

Muddle? Very keen observation.

What the heck is all this sensible posting about moving off K1?

We need more short takes or he scrubbed his instagram takes.

I'm pretty much out on kyler. But I been watching this league a long time...all it takes is for a team to get hot,...a group of guys to feel like they are a team of destiny or some crap...and you win a super bowl
But it's hard to see that happening with a qb that sucks sewer water in pressure games... I don't know if we can build up a team strong enough to carry him through whatever mental block he has

What's the alternative? Kyler contract is a nightmare of rolling guarantees. Even if you cut him loose, there isn't a clear path to a QB that is Top 8 and not Top 12.

If doing so were easy, Derek Carr wouldn't still have a job.

The guarantees are of no consequence. I see in the recent replies on this thread that people think his new guarantees kicking in somehow lock him in.

But guarantees are traded with the player, only prorated signing bonuses stay with the team. So the G's don't make any difference.

Let’s take a turn on this thread since most people are unmovable on their position.

For the haters (probably myself in this group)- what does Kyler have to do for you to endorse him as our qb for 2026?

For the lovers (really want to hear from 602 and crimson)- what is the low bar for you to say it’s time to move on next draft?

Personally - if Kyler makes it to the playoffs and plays half decent in that playoff game (even if it’s ugly at times), I’ll roll with Kyler in 2026

Yes. The only option is trading him.

It would be pretty chilling if in 2025 Kyler does not perform a lot better in clutch situations, specifically in November and December. In games where the season is on the line.

It's not fair to lay more than maybe 10% of the blame for 2024's clutch-situation failures at the feet of his coaches or teammates.

I think there were plays K1 could have made (either running or throwing) at the end of the games against MIN, SEA (x2) and then CAR. But for whatever reason, he did not.

So, lighting an extra candle at my (very tasteful) Kyler Murray shrine and hoping for the best this year! :)

It’s funny, when it comes from a taller Purdy people have no choice but to accept it, but when we say it about Murray on these boards people lose their minds.
This is where learning to reading a defense comes into play the most. If they can pretty much know whose going to be open they can shift the pocket a yard left or right to create a throwing lane for that receiver.

I think the OL needs to be looked at in the draft but not day 1. I think Murray playing more confidently with a better defense would help. The OL and WR would be addressed and improve. What I would need to see from KM is improved play with an overall better roster around him. I think that ties to big games. He needs to get his edge back with the dual threat. He also needs to win games where he passes from a buck 120 and the rbs run for 200 yards.

I’m close to this. If Kyler can legitimately lead us to the playoffs and play well enough to win it (like the defense lets us down) I’d be ready to see if he can take the next step in 26. Anything less and it’s time to seek something else.

SMALL SAME SIZE. Raise your hand if you are old enough to remember “Peyton Manning can’t win in the playoffs. John Elway can’t win the big game!”

Please note: this historically bad franchise has not been good enough for most of my lifetime (and Kyler Murray’s lifetime).
Everyone’s a choker until they’re not unless you’re Brady/Montana and win right away. Until someone explains how there’s a better option than Kyler that’s realistic he’s our guy.

what legitimate successful QB has worse WRs and OL? And don’t give me Burrow on the OL.. he takes sacks all day long it’s been in his scouting report since high school

For me, he needs to lead us to the playoffs (not back in) and lead us to a playoff victory.
