Very interesting article from PFT.

The negotiation is based on the slotted value and the franchise QB deal. The slotted value hurts Leinart, because of the below market value deals signed by Sims and Cutler, while the "Franchise QB" deal hurts the team, because of the above market value deal signed by Young.

Just to interject...

Jake's "big" deal wasn't a rookie contract.

But it was nearly 10 years ago. Rookie Top 10 contracts have gone up a little bit since then.

For what its worth....

Heard Bickley and MJ's show this morning and someone called in and said they saw Leinart at the Mimi's cafe in auwatukee. The caller sounded belivable.

If Leinart is back in the valley, that could be a good sign that progress on a deal is getting made.

I seem to recall about 5 years 250 million but that may just be me getting a bit senile.

According to USA today the actual deal was 4 years 29.7 million with 15 million in the signing bonus, which they claim was the highest bonus in NFL history at the time, although I think they're wrong about that.

Twice as much as A-Rod? Jake got a lot of money, but he didn't get that kind of money.

Jake did get the highest signing bonus in NFL history at the time, but it didn't last long because Drew Bledsoe became the first $100 million QB the next season (I think).

I was joking, because even at the time the deal seemed too big to me. I knew it was the record bonus for a Card but for some reason I didn't remember it being the highest in the NFL to that point, but I guess it was.

We'll get Leinart in eventually I think his agent is smart enough to realize he's only going to get so much in a QB premium, and if he demands too much he's going to be unsigned. Say what you want about Bidwill one thing the man is for sure is stubborn.

I'm done worrying about players contracts.

You can pretend like you know what is going on, but really we have no idea what each side wants or what is holding things up.

As fans there is nothing we can do so I'm not going to lose any sleep over it.

Eventually Leinart will sign and he will be welcomed with open arms when he does.

Yeah that's pretty much the approach I have been taking. We all know he will get signed, so there is no sense in worrying about it. It's not like he is going to sit out the year and re-enter the draft.

i am not going to worry about the contract negoations anymore. it is pointless and meaniless when you know that if all goes well that leinart not going to see any playing time this season anyway. so what is the rush. he was the last one picked out of that draft room and he will be the last one signed. at least their is consistantcy with leinart.

Last night on NFL Total Access, AS reported that he doesn't expect ML to sign until next week, at the earliest. Said, I believe, that the coaches feel he must be signed prior to the first preseason game if he's going to be worth anything this year. I'm not sure if AS is "wired" or not.

wired or not realize that either side in a negotiation will "leak" what they feel will benefit them in the negotiation...he is wired to that extent...anyone in that position will get the same information...as i said before just sit tight...

Why do you think that anyone would get traction in a negotiation by leaking anything? It's not like Michael Bidwill's going to look in his AZR and say, "Whoa, Condon's killing us on Page 2. We should give Matt whatever he wants." Nor is Condon or Matt going to say, "Wow, Rod Graves is really making me look unreasonable; I'll accept whatever's on the table."

It's most likely that whomever's talking is saying what's really going on. I haven't heard anyone in Cardinal camp say that Matt wants Vince Young's contract. I've heard a lot of sources say that the Cards are being unreasonable.

That's odd. Almost all reports I hear seem to think Matt's camp is the one being unreasonable.

I'd also have to say I've read far more reports with this sort of a take on the situation too.

Except the reports always suggest the player is being unreasonable.

I find it very hard to believe the Cardinals manage to draft unreasonable, greedy players with unrealistic contract expectations every year.

Not true at all. Reporters have called the Cards cheap for years. This is one of the few times the player is being scrutinized more than the team.

Mao why do you keep dredging up the past ?

If BB Snr was driving the contract talks I could see it maybe but he isn't and recent history suggests that trhe Cardinals are being very proactive on contracts.

What is the problem here ?

i think you are being a bit naive if you don't believe that "stuff" leaked does not put pressure on one side or the other in a negotiation. do you think your "sources" are the only people who heard what you say you did...and why would they share that with you and no one else??? and if they shared it with others...why don't we see this anywhere??? 'nuf said by me.

What? What does everything after that first sentence even mean? Show me one instance where public negotiation worked on getting a player to sign for less money or a team to offer more? It doesn't happen.
