Minnesota must have a different crystal ball. and let me save you from the tired "6 other teams must have had the same crystal ball we did"...those 6 teams all took the first rated player at their position, some had running backs and NONE reached for an AWFUL player who was a reach at the time.

1. Jamarcus Russell - Raiders
2. Calvin Johnson - Lions
3. Joe Thomas - Browns
4. Gaines Adams - Bucs
5. Round Mound Brown - Cards
6. Laron Landry - Redskins
7. Adrian Peterson - Vikes

I can see at least one HISTORICALLY awful in this list other than Levi and one seriously overdrafted.

And, we did have a running back with a big contract: Edge.

So maybe draft Joe Staley, Darell Revis, Patrick Willis instead?

Maybe going back to PA will light a spark in Levi's behind.

Like 7 years hasn't been enough.:mulli:

Funny how the Stealers drafted Levi last year in Mike Adams, then bench him after trading for Levi Brown. :D;):D

Big Ben better take out another life insurance policy.

Considering late round picks have a better chance at contibuting for the Cards, at least Keim was smart enough to get a late round pick for Brown instead of a 2nd rounder.

As well as not trading for Eugene Monroe, who ironically wore #75. See they are learning :D

Not true, but you do have to weigh the risk vs the reward and decide if it's worth making the gamble.
The thing about risk/reward gambles is that there is a downside (otherwise there'd be no risk).

But you seldom hear about gambles that go wrong (because people like to talk about successes and don't like to talk about mistakes).

This creates a natural bias that makes risk-taking seem far sexier than than erring on the side of caution.

Peterson was considered an injury risk. Levi was considered a less-talented but safer option at a position of serious need.

We decided to play it safe and it turned out we were wrong. It is what it is - but it doesn't mean that the FO's thinking process wasn't sound. It just means that the Football Gods once again puked in our soup.

Have the details of the conditional pick been released if Levi passes the physical?

Minnesota drafted the illustrious Troy Williamson and mostly crap around AP so their crystal ball has seems to be broken other than one round in 2007.

In 2008 our NFC Championship season the Vikings were coached by Brad Childress, quarterbacked by a combination of Gus Frerotte and Tavaris Jackson, and were led in receptions by Bobby Wade. They managed to go 10-6 (exceeding our regular season win total) and win the NFC North. Peterson averaged 4.8 YPC for 1760 yards and 10 TD's.

Yes, the Levi Brown pick cost us a Super Bowl. Period.

“Levi Brown was not living up to expectations on the field,” Keim said, via Darren Urban of the Cardinals’ website.

Cardinals coach Bruce Arians added that he doesn’t think Brown is as good now as he was before suffering a torn triceps in 2012, which caused him to miss the entire season. Arians said there’s no risk in trading Brown away from this point because the Cardinals couldn’t get any worse in pass protection than they have been in the first four games.

As it turns out #Cardinals will pay 2.8M of Levi Brown remaining salary, was owed 3.6M... He will count 4.2 against the cap in 2014.

Man, BASK really wanted him gone.

I love alternate histories-- here is mine if the Cards took AP

The offense of Fitz, Boldin and AP is good enough to make Matt Leinart look serviceable. The Cards spend the next two seasons going 10-6, but losing in the first round of the playoffs. Warner never gets his chance and retires. Fitz, frustrated with catching 7 yard passes from Matt, tests free agency. Graves lets him go because AP is the center of the offense. Whis gets the "win a playoff game or else" -- and after going 9-7 and exiting in the first round for the third year in a row, is fired. Graves hires Ron Rivera.

Meanwhile, the board rages over the question: is Leinart any good?

This is the most accurate thing ever stated on this website. Our history could be much different without Levi. Maybe in an alternate universe, AP destroys his knee after we cut Edge and we are forced to start JJ Arrington. Levi brown gets drafted and becomes a solid starter elsewhere. AP struggles to recover from the injury behind our lackluster O-Line and we all lament on how we should have drafted Levi.

For your history to work Leinart has to not break his collarbone and Warner has to not almost set a franchise record for TD passes and throwing for almost 3000 yards playing only half a season in 2007.

I like these:

Instead of Levi Brown the Cardinals draft Darelle Revis whose 4th quarter interception of a Roethlisberger pass helps seal the teams first NFL title since 1947.

Or

Instead of Levi Brown the Cardinals draft Patrick Willis whose sack and strip of Ben R in the 4th quarter helps win the teams first NFL title since 1947.

What good would it have done to draft Peterson if you don't have an Oline to open up holes.
Hindsight is 20/20 and there's nothing that says Peterson would have turned into a great rusher for the Cards.

Guys like Peterson will wreck havoc no matter what. Plus defenses wouldn't be able to put 8 in a box like they do now against him because of the passing threat of Warner, Fitzgerald and Boldin.

Arizona would easily have had the best offense in the NFL for ages.
