but there's not a team around that doesn't suffer some injuries.

BULL! There's teams all the time that stay relatively injury free. We are a prime example last season.

the impression I've gotten from a goodly number of posters is that this season is already over. It doesn't take much to crush the hopes of a lot of Cards fans it seems; perhaps understandable given the team's history, but that doesn't make it right.

it might not make "it" right, but they are usually proven right, for what it's worth. And I'm not begrudging your belief - you're free to believe what you wish. I just wish those people who are skeptical could be so without being told to keep quiet.

predict failure time and again and you are usually proven right. But who wants to be a prophet of doom? your prescience is not valued in that situation--usually it is resented.

you seem to want to make yourself into a martyr because I commented that the season isn't over--it hasn't even started! But go ahead and have your skepticism--aka doom and gloom--I'd rather believe in a bright future and be wrong.

We're all Cards fans here, so we all love this team; apparently we all think it's going different places though. that's fine, but may I say I think my destination is a better place that that of the skeptics.

who says I WANT to be a prophet of doom? It's not my fault that the team has major problems. That fault lays at the feet of the FO, not mine. I just call it the way I see it.

As far as my opinion being resented? I've just never understood how my opinion on my own football can be taken personally by someone else. Does it really effect you that I think we're going to be bad for a myriad of reasons?

no, I made my comment because you basically told a group of people to can it until at least the first game of the season.

But go ahead and have your skepticism--aka doom and gloom--I'd rather believe in a bright future and be wrong.

First, it's realism - not doom and gloom and personally, I'd rather go in with low expectations with a franchise that has yet to prove anything and be pleasantly surprised than believe in a bright future and end up crushed like most Cardinal fans on this board are every year.

You may say that. I just don't understand why you think people who hold a contrary opinion to yours shouldn't be afforded the same chance to voice their opinion.

This is probably why we should have picked up Gaither for a 5th because we are an injury away from possibly having to start guys like Elton Brown & Brandon Gorin, yikes.
I was all for going after him with a 3rd or 4th .. and the Ravens got him with a 5th ...

We started out with very little depth at OT .. and now we have none ...

Alright then make the bet 12. I knew at some point during that year he was averaging higher than 1 per contest.

I'll bet you can't find another two offensive linemen in NFL history who combined for 18 false starts in one season, SEVEN in the first 3 games, like Ross and Davis did in 2005.

The thing that concerns me is that with Davis in Dallas, and a supposed emphasis in practice on the snap count, the Cards still had three false starts last night.

My expectations have gotten lower and lower the last few years. I thought we looked like about a 6-10 team last night and that was before I knew about the injuries.

That being said, I grow weary of the threads started by certain posters for the express purpose of saying "I told you so" and expressing to the board how much smarter they are than the rest of us.

I'm not stopping you from voicing your opinion at all. You are doing so right now. I think what you want is to be able to voice your opinion and not have anyone else comment something contrary to it. That I can't help you with.

You pick the realist path, you are going to have people disagree with it. Same with choosing the homer path. If you want to stick your neck out by having an opinion, then someone somewhere is going to disagree with it.

ETA You don't have to listen to anything I say. I'm not a moderator so you have no fear of me erasing accounts of those who have abandoned hope. All I expressed was a wish for people not to mail it in already. That's not a commandment--it was a entreaty and literary device. I have no power over the other readers to compel them.

Why do I get the impression that you fancy yourself Danton giving his final speech?

It's a good thing the Cards didn't have towels last year or quite a few fans would have already thrown them into the ring and we are 3 weeks away from the start of the season.

Now is the time for Grimm to earn his pay. He's going to have the raise the level of play from our other O linemen and the FO will have to see if they can dig up a few more bodies.

Instead of crying over spilt milk, go out and do something about it and if this team ever hopes to make the playoffs, they are going to have to overcome little problems like this.

I keep hearing everyone talk about lack of depth. What NFL team doesn't have a lack of depth in certain areas. It's impossible to have starter level players as back ups at every position. The good teams make their back ups play above their skill levels because the back ups don't want to let their teammates down.

Was it over when the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor? No, and it's not over now. We shall fight them in the trenches and overcome the bad ref calls and the slings and arrows of outrageous fortune. The only way is up and we will head in that direction if we have to crawl on our hands and knees through the swill of adversity. We shall not rest until we reach the top. This is SPARTA!!!!!

Who told you or Shane to keep quiet? Gambit put his opinion out there and then you and Shane saw fit to contest it. It's actually the entire opposite of what you are suggesting.

Didn't the Cards start 1-8 and lose in, one of, if not the most embarrassing fashions in NFL history last year?

Maybe the players had towels last year.

If you want to drown in koolaid at least we have two guys who have been with the team for awhile to step in for Chiki and a first round pick to take over for Ross. Not like seasons past when the second teamers would have been lucky to play in the Arena league if they weren't on the Cardinals roster.

Ah-hah, a positive statment. That's the spirit. We'll keep this ship upright if we have to use bailing wire and spit. Destiny has finally decided to smile on this team.

All kidding aside, there were some great positives from that game. Shipp and Warner look like they are in mid season form and the Oline did manage to open holes for Shipp and Arrington. Arrington was actually hitting people instead of laying down after a hit and Togafau looks like he might be a diamond in the rough. It's obvious that Green has improved and Johnson looked pretty tough at center. On top of all that, Rackers looks like his back to his year before last form and I believe Breaston will solve our woes at KR.

Still too many penalities and missed assignments, but the tackling looks to be much better. We are improving gentlemen and I hope by the time our first real game is here, we will be ready to stomp some major butt.

Nobody can plan for injuries I guess but getting quality depth at positions where we were weak never seemed to be high priorities.

Still POed about Clancy and Milford Brown but they wouldn't have helped in this instance.

Well its now a chance for Blackstock and Johnson to make an impact at Okeafor's OLB position. They haven't proven squat yet though...

actually, it's not Reds. I have no problem with his opinion - I think it's misguided, but I don't disparage his hope. It's when someone says "you should wait until at least the first game of the season to call the season quits" that pretty much says to me shut up for at least another month, is what I have a problem with. I just don't see why it's necessary.

This discussion started when Shane replied to Gambit on the first page.

Shane contested Gambits opinion (which he is entilted to do) and then went from there. If you quote someone, you are opening up the flood gates in my opinion.
