This is probably why we should have picked up Gaither for a 5th because we are an injury away from possibly having to start guys like Elton Brown & Brandon Gorin, yikes.

Gorin and Elton or Ross..

Take your pick.. If given one, I'd rather have the former anyhow.

Here's hoping that Levi steps in immediately and becomes the fixture of the OLIne Arizona's needed for some time. Was thought he'd get a game or two in the regular season to prepare, but now he gets thrust immediately in to the fire as he should be.

it's a good thing he's not playing catch up because he was in camp on time... oh wait... :(

If you are going to play Rice, you might as well figure we won't be able to stop the run. The only person Rice will tackle is the QB.

That is exactly what he would be brought here to do. I dont want him to stop the run. Dont need him to. Thats what Pace and Blackstock are far.

I want Rice to go after the QB on 3rd down, or 2nd and long, or late game drives with teams looking for big passes when they are down late in the 2nd quarter or late in the 4th quarter. You can put in Pace or Blackstock all other times

Never said Rice would be a starter or be starting on 1st down.

Its called situational pass rusher.

As his 1 sack in 30 career games can attest.

It's kind of hard to sack the QB on special teams. That statement makes it sound like he's had regular playing time on defense as a pass rusher and failed.

Being limited to special teams on a team who's defense has had pathetic play from his LBer spot opposite Dansby just adds more fuel to the "he can't be depended on" fire IMO, no?

Maybe but do you agree that K9 was twisting stats? I'm not hitching up the Blackstock bandwagon but I'm not going to dump on him right now either. IMO this is the deciding year for him. He came in to the league as a project. He was a pass rushing OLB in a 3-4 in college and had to transition to playing in a 4-3 in the NFL. Anyone who seriously expected him to do much right away was just plain crazy. I don't think he had much experience in coverage on the college level let alone the pro level.

This year he's in his 3rd year and in a system that should play him to his strengths and hide his weaknesses. If he sucks this year then yes, bury him.

no. He's played in that many games and a) when on the field he can't get anything done and b) he's not even good enough to get on the field for a bad defense with an empty LBer spot. Stats don't need to be twisted to show that this guy has done nothing to expect him to be able to step it up this year.

Assface, if he could rush the passer, he would have shown the ability to do so in many of the situational opportunities he's been given in the past 30 career games. He's no stranger to the defense.

Or are you like Michael Stone's sister and believe that Blackstock couldn't get on the field with the old coaching staff because he didn't go to Michigan State?

Sorry, but I can't see paying Rice the amount of money he'll want to only use him a dozen times a game.

I agree Joe. This is the time to find out whether he belongs in the NFL. Let's watch how he performs in the next couple of pre-season games. We should know something about how the coaching staff thinks of him by the amount of playing time he gets. If he gets a lot of playing time, they must think he has something to give. I'm interested to see how Pace performs also. I still haven't given up on him and would like to see him really shine this year.

Good thing we have 3 pre-season games to work these kinks out.

Those two losses are like not that big a deal.

Seriously, yeah depth would be great and all, but em they both suck.

So now our depth still sucks but there's an outside shot someone else will be good, which is better than before they got hurt.

All in all, claiming anything about the season is a little early, now if a few other key players got hurt I could understand but these two aren't much better than someone off the street would be.

I could somewhat understand this about Ross, but are you really serious as far as Okefaor is concerned. The guy is like our 3rd most dependable/best player on Defense.

MESA! :thud:

:bang:

:(

:help:

Chike was going to the Pro-Bowl this year. Ross was our starter at RT and at a minimum he was a solid backup at G/T.

Stick a fork in us. We are done!
This one is still shocking the crap out of me. We're DONE? We're not through preseason yet & we're DONE? I'm hoping there's some underlying sarcasm I'm not detecting. I won't call us "done" until at least week 10.

You haven't been a card fan long....It only takes 6 weeks into the season to know we are done. :D

Chike is a big loss. The defense would be much better with him.

The Cardinals need two things: Whomever moves into that role needs to be no worse that "adequate". I am not expecting Pace or Blackstock to be at Chike's level -- I just want them to not suck.

Somebody else needs to elevate their production from 2006 -- the two candidates in my mind are Dansby and/or Berry. It would be nice to see Karlos have that monster year you sense is just waiting to bust out. Bertrand needs to stay healthy and produce a consistent pass rush. I dont expect 12+ -- but something like 9 sacks and good pressure would be good.

What happened on the plays where they got hurt? What actually caused the injuries?

Sorry,

I had flashbacks to losing losing two starters in Minnesota that one preseason game several years ago and had a little deja vu. We are not done but our road just got a lot rougher. I really feel bad for Chike and Ross.

How do you know how much he will want until you ask.

You have to replace Okeafers 8 sacks and 8 TFL. Thats takes money to get that production.

If he wants more then 3 mill total and cant pass a physical then sure he isnt in our plans. But anything else he would be a good fit.

If both can't go this season and we put them on IR, how does that affect our cap? Do their salaries no longer count in the cap for this season? I once knew the answer to this, but I have no clue at the moment.

On the surface it appears he was doing a parody (is that the right word?) of the comments by some on ASFN after Femi, Clancy, and MBrown were released.

They still count.

Ugh. Please no Rice.

I'd rather trade for Leonard Little.
