eh, who really cares - bottom line, sucks about Okie. Ross' injury could be a blessing in disguise.

Welcome to Cardinals football, Mr. Whisenhunt. :(

Sure wish we had the option of moving M. Brown back in to start at LG, moving Wells back to T. I have a bad feeling about starting Levi next week. :bang:

1) I hope Skkorp is right about Wells being better than what I saw last night, because I thought Ross was going to be his replacement.

2) The 3-4 experiment was fairly short-lived.

3) The Graves bashers would seem to have the upper hand in the Milford Brown/K. Clancy discussion. Why they were let go before the last cuts is beyond me.

4) The beer will still be cold at the stadium next month, so all is not lost.

you are acting like you take 50 great players and put them in cardinal red and they will suck...i just dont understand it.

I've said it for years: As soon as a guy signs with the Cardinals they grow 10 thumbs and two left feet. Except for wide receivers. For some reason they are exempt.

However I am no longer concerned about the Cards being terrible forever.

My favorite sports teams are the Longhorns, baseball Cardinals, SASpurs, Arizona Cardinals, and the TX RollerBabes.

2005 Longhorns win the BCS Championship
2006 Baseball Cardinals win the World Series
2007 Spurs win the NBA Championship

Guess whose turn it is for 2008! :koolaid:

Injuries are a part of football.

I wonder whether there would be as many early expressions of doom and gloom had we beaten the Raiders - even by a small margin (Unbelievable considering we're only talking about a preseason Game 1).

Good teams shake off injuries and find a way to compete. This will be an early challenge for the new coaching staff. Based on what's been heard from people on this board about Reggie Wells, we may be be blessed by early decisions to (a) move Levi Brown up as a starting RT to replace Ross and (b) move Wells out of the starting LG position and make him a reserve OT. And it looks like Sendlein figures to get an even longer look at what he might do for us as a backup G-C swing guy.

You pick the realist path, you are going to have people disagree with it. Same with choosing the homer path. If you want to stick your neck out by having an opinion, then someone somewhere is going to disagree with it.

h?

While I more often than not tend to agree, and/or, defend the "realists", "darksiders", "doom-and-gloomers" I must say this is an excellent point. The largest threads on these boards are attacking Nidan for what is perceived to be, his blatant homerism of the FO (I will refrain from comment on that right now for fear Nidan will hear me) :)

Anyway, the point is, just like in politics, the extreme sides usually get all the attention.

Now, with that out of the way, what does the top 5 look like in next years draft? :D

Depending on the severity of the tear -- Chike (and Oliver) could be back after the bye week -- which is eleven weeks from now.

That would put them back of 9 of 16 games

Shane's not a real fan... that's about as preposterous a comment as I've heard here for a while.
i didnt say he wasn't, never met the guy in my life, and can't say i remember any of his posts, but i see he has a lot. I'm just getting fed up with the way people talk about their team.

give me a break. I don't know anyway to interpret you quoting what Shane said, then calling it ridiculous and saying a real fan keeps the faith. Good lord.

I'm just getting fed up with the way people talk about their team.

well, maybe you should take that out on the people who are responsibile for supplying ample ammunition to our own fans which they fire away with, namely the FO who puts the mess on the field. That's who I'm fed up with.

k im sorry Shane and anybody who took offense, i wasn't personally attacking Shane or anybody who has been around the Cards for many years and has had to live through season after season of disappointment, im only 17 so i haven't had to go through many...However, one of the things Coach Ken said he wanted to change was the attitude around this team in the community, and since i joined this site a few months ago it doesn't seem like many people want to give this team a chance, it seems like its always when, not if, this team will collapse this season. i honestly think that this team could go 8-8 at the least, and maybe even better while winning the division. so im sorry Shane, reading back i realize it was a personal attack, but i can assure you that is not how i meant it.

actually, it's not Reds. I have no problem with his opinion - I think it's misguided, but I don't disparage his hope. It's when someone says "you should wait until at least the first game of the season to call the season quits" that pretty much says to me shut up for at least another month, is what I have a problem with. I just don't see why it's necessary.

Why is it one extreme or another? Either we suck and throw it in or you shut up and don't talk? Why not just dial back to gloom a bit?

Not that I care either way...I love darksider posts though I try to look for the good at all times personally. But I don't think anyone is telling anyone to shut up fo a few months...but maybe to dial back the hate (or koolaid) a bit.

ok, now PLEASE don't take this the wrong way, but I can now understand where you're coming from A LOT better knowing how old you are. That's not a slam - I remember being at that age and probably having the same viewpoint as you. Ah, the innocence of youth! Hold on to it as long as you can! :)

Imagine how the Rams felt when Trent Green went down in the preseason. The QB is Kurt Who?

You never know how the back-ups will step up. This is a blow, but it's not the end of the season.

I couldn't agree more.

But....

The Cards' D still has playmakers: Dockett, Wilson, Berry and Dansby. I love Watson and Branch in the middle. I really liked the addition of Hood for the secondary. This defense will still be solid.

As a Rams' fan I was hoping that Ross would be protecting Leinart's blind side this year. I'd have been surprised if Brown didn't beat him out by the end of preseason. This might hurt the depth at tackle, but what team has a great back up waiting to protect their QB's blindside? Not many.

Sadly, I'm still picking the Cards and Hawks to battle it out for the NFC West this season. Losing Ross and Okeafor changes nothing, IMO.

Chike was going to the Pro-Bowl this year. Ross was our starter at RT and at a minimum he was a solid backup at G/T.

Stick a fork in us. We are done!

good teams aren't as woefully thin as we are at certain positions, especially offensive line where our starters at T aren't all that good to begin with.

Agreed.

I refused to be jaded for the season because of these two injuries but you can't ignore we have two guys who are going down in the places we have the least depth.

Sucks.

Another question to ask is

"Is Oliver Ross done in Arizona?"

I would think so. It is not his fault the guy got injured, but he really has not done anything positive here in the desert.

Man, there's alot of doom and gloom here. I didn't think the Cards were going to be all that great this year but i'll wait and see what happens when the games count.Pre-season means absolutely nothing. Now people are stressing out over the loss of Oliver Ross. Wasn't it not too long ago that many were calling for him to be cut? Okeafor will hurt but it's not like he was a perrenial pro bowl player and OLB is probably the easiest position to replace on the defense. You don't see the Colts stressing out over Tarik Glenn suddenly retiring and exposing their main asset that keeps them from becoming a 4-12 team. And Tarik Glenn is a much bigger loss that Ross could ever be. You plug in a new guy and move on. Chances are Levi Brown was going to start anyway.

lol ... first game of the preseason and there is already crying. Ros is not much of a loss. Chike is a leader but not dominant. We are going to be fine. 9-7.
