Maybe there's something going on behind the scenes that we don't know about? Because I think any reasonable person would conclude the same as you have regarding running the 40. I don't understand the decision.
He doesn't have to run a 4.3 to prove he's "elite". Wilson ran a 4.55, Manziel a 4.65, and Mayfield a 4.8.
If he could just post a 4.45, that would be "elite" enough, along with his proven QB ability, to justify at least a top five pick.
Previously I felt confident he could run under 4.5. Now, I'm not sure. And, if he really is a 4.65 guy, then no, I don't think we should spend the first pick in the draft on him. My whole proposition for drafting him is that he is at least the athletic equivalent of Wilson, but for some unknown reason, he's unwilling to try to prove this is true.
On it's face, it's impossible to defend.
