Although I will NEVER utter that word, the fact remains that there are plenty of white people that use it in the exact same context as black people do, and their black friends have absolutely no issue with it.

I had to work a week in New Orleans, and everyone in the room I was in was black, except me and one other guy. I am from AZ, the rest were from Houston (including the white guy) and work together day in, day out. The white guy from Houston used the N word just as much as the black guys did, and it clearly didn't bother them (bothered the crap out of me, but I didn't say anything because if they weren't bothered, it's my problem, not theirs).

As much as I hate Incognito, I firmly believe this has nothing to do with race. It has to do with a douche being a douche.

Maybe because they don't see him as a bigot and the know the context in which he used the "n" word. I think the fact no one wants to talk about is that there are more guys like Incognito on the Dolphins, and probably in the NFL, then there are like Martin.

Maybe not. I saw on OTL 2day that 5 Fins players defended him that were black & said that don't believe Incognito is a racist...so maybe he is & maybe he's not! We haven't heard anymore bad things about the Riley Coooer incident either. Oh well, I wouldn't & haven't used the N word around any of my personal friends who are black & guys I played sports with...guess it's just a differant era, but it still doesn't make it right.

This is exactly how the Dolphins would want the story diluted and spun down to.... the use of the N word by one guy.

Notice how the last few pages of posts on our board have not even mentioned the extreme monetary shakedowns that happened on this team as well?

Great spin control by the Dolphins. Far smarter than I thought they would be.

If Tanny (who still has a whole lot of career and future money to worry about) goes on public record saying Martin and Incog got along just fine then I'm gonna believe it, dude has no reason to falsify anything at this point, especially sticking up for someone that the world has already decided (overnight) to be the biggest racist hazingest bullying money hungry POS in the NFL.

I am no Incog fan, but I don't see any entire locker room condoning the behavior that was portrayed.

Incog is a jerkwad that brings out the worst in people on the other team, he does despicable things on the field to accomplish that.

Martin bounced, who knows why, maybe because of Incog. Might be the 15 G's...what's the time line with that part of the story? When was the Vegas trip? If it was old news than why didn't Martin trip out when it happened?

What exactly was the breaking point for Martin? Was it the voicemails he shared and joked about with his friends? Did he "feel" he had to joke about them?

Should we start a Jonathon Martin Foundation? Is every black friend that Incognito ever had a fool?

Why isn't Kerry Rhodes playing in the NFL ?

This is exactly how the Dolphins would want the story diluted and spun down to.... the use of the N word by one guy.

I was asking about the dough too but I still don't see the whole team covering it up like that. Maybe but I doubt it. Something else is afoot.

A new report late Wednesday claims that Miami Dolphins General Manager Jeff Ireland was made aware of the alleged bullying involving offensive linemen Jonathan Martin and Richie Incognito, and suggested that Martin try to resolve the matter by confronting his teammate physically.

The report, on the website ProFootballTalk.com, cited multiple NFL sources in saying that Martin's agent, Rick Smith, called Ireland sometime before Martin left the Dolphins October 28 to complain about the way Incognito was treating his teammate. Ireland reportedly responded to Smith's complaint by telling him that Martin should stand up to Incognito physically and specifically suggested punching the latter man. The Dolphins organization has not commented on any aspect of the case since announcing Incognito's indefinite suspension for conduct detrimental to the team late Sunday.

Why wouldn't they cover it up? It seems pretty clear that the veteran players have been siphoning money out of the rooks for quite some time. It shames me to say it, but former Penn Stater Jared Odrick proved that with his stupid picture and comment--"It always tastes better when the rookies pay". Why in the heck would the vets back Martin up when it would ruin their cash cow rookies situation?

If it is such a bad word then why is it used about a buzillion times a day across the world, and this nation.

I personally think it is used as a convenient truth these days. Matter on whom it will benefit is how it is determined whether it is right or wrong.

Furthermore, I take issue with people saying certain people cannot say the word. My lineage comes into America after slavery was abolished in this country so based on what I have been told, I have no reason to be frowned upon for things because I am white. Yet, I am. Is that racism towards me ? I don't know, and frankly don't care. I don't use the word out of respect, but am also disgusted when it is used in a manipulative way because then what the hell am I respecting ? The right for people to use a horrible thing to manipulate others, with guilt trips and fear tactics ?

Yet, that is how this game, and it is a game, is being played with this word.

I find it disgusting because the word is should not be used because it speaks of an issue that is wrong in a land of freedom, yet these days it is more or less become a social card people can play. Which I believe has made the word, and the reason why it is dubbed bad, meaningless. Which has to be the most disrespectful thing of all when it comes to the subject.

The word is either right or wrong. If people want there to be a grey area, then people have to stop being so "outraged" when the word is used, because there is no clear line of acceptability or non-acceptance. Hence, its a convenient truth.

Thus, why people are hung up on the racism part of it more than the threats to the family is beyond me.

If I have said it once, I have said it a hundred times this week: What if YOUR family was threatened ? That is as far as I had to take this situation.

I was talking about the black folks on the Dolphins amigo. Aint no way to get 20 or 30 black dudes to back up a "racist", especially with the egos that come in professional sports.

But it sounds like the fins are now saying Martin punched Incognito.... so who knows, I'm just gonna watch the trainwreck like everyone else. :D

Quite naive a statement, IMO.

This is 'merica the almighty dollar rules over all. Do you see the dollar amounts that where getting thrown around. That will buy off a lot of people, and make them pacify any action.........as long as the money keeps flowing into their pockets.

It happens everyday. How easily people will sell out for money is something that is always hidden behind the curtain but is very real. I am not to proud to say I am one of those people. The crap I will do for money is ridiculous, and beyond logic, but I do it anyway........as long as the money keeps flowing.

So Richie is a honorary black man as ordained by his fellow teammates who are black. What exactly does that mean? If the situation was reversed would a single black player become an honorary white man? How would that play out in the media? Would it be the same as the honorary black man?

Martin was not black enough for his fellow teammates? What does that mean? Martin's skin is black, he has a black parent. Again if the situation was reversed could a black player be considered not white enough for his fellow white teammates?

I just re-read what I just typed and to read it again well it sounds quite ridiculous yet in one context its is deemed okay and in another it's not. Why does it seem that making a statement that our white buddy here is considered a honorary black man while if the statement was made that our black buddy here is considered a honorary white man would be considered wrong?

Don't get me wrong, I do not condone what Incognito did as in any way, shape, or form acceptable. What I am questioning is how it is okay to make a statement made by a group of black players that a white guy is considered black yet a black player is considered not black enough because of his background. Where is the logic in this?

Why is a black man rejected by men who are the same as far as skin color because his parents worked hard and created a better life that afforded them and their son luxuries and opportunities, not black enough because he didn't come from a background that may have had parents who struggled to keep things afloat or came from an impoverished community so it makes him not black enough?

I guess this way of thinking is lost on me. I don't understand it.

Exactly. Words only have the power that people give them. I don't believe Incognito is a racist....definitely an asshat but not a racist.

The real issue, and we will probably never know, is how Incognito treated Martin on a day to day basis. In other words, what was Incognito's intention? Was he just talking to Martin as a friend or was he trying to intimidate him? As my mother was fond of saying, "It isn't what you said it was the way you said it."

More and more Dolphin players are coming to Douchebags defense. As some have posted the truth isn't so clear at this point.

Having to earn your way into a fraternity, football team etc. has been around for like forever. Military uses a similar process getting their recruits trained.

Not sure what the psychology behind it is but it's a tactic that has been successful.

Countless retired & current NFL players have stated that the racial slurs and threatening of life are not acceptable but Martin is in the wrong and allowed this to happen. Sure not all the facts are in but the point is that the culture of the NFL is that one "Has to be a Man and stand up for themselves".

Just look at the way JayZ is defending his cash cow agreement with Barneys, after Barney's treated black men like crap.

I have never heard the word '******' outside of the U.S.

It has nothing to do with our history here.

Care to explain, cause I have never heard one stated that wasn't gone back on 15 minutes from the time I heard said statement.

Will said "very clear line" hold up in court where it matters ?

Furthermore, if it is a bad word, why is it used at all ?

I personally just don't say it, ever. Cause goodness knows if it is being "used right". Too many variables to make a good decision if you ask me.

If other people feel comfortable using it, and see a clear line, then more power to you. I am obviously not one of those people, so I just don't say it.
