i totally disagree - Junior has been a major character on this show throughout his run -- you have to give him closure and I think that's exactly what that episode did.

there's still PLENTY of time left in this show - 6 hours is a long time.

I can deal with it. But if they go back to Jr. and spend to much more time on him I will be sorely dissapointed.

I can understand that and agree with you. If they DO go back to Junior, it better be some revelatory sh$t!

None the less its still just filler and really has no bearing on where this show is headed whatsoever. Entertaining? Yea! Meaningful? NO!

not really... if tony is really having some kind of a existential boss crisis, then the junior angle could be a pseudo foreshadowing.

we were previously left with the idea that all tony's future had in store for him was death or jail; junior has opened up a sad, new door for tony.

Someone at the office thought it was inappropriate that an Asian beat up Junior.

Huh?

that person is ******** - I'm guessing because it was right after the Va Tech shootings and on the show, an Asian kid goes nuts and beats up Junior - give me a break - the scene was probably written over a year ago and shot 7 months ago. Tell your co-worker they might as well kill themself if they are that sensitive.

Good episode.

Junior is awesome...the boat scene was nerve-wracking. Paulie just grates soooooo hard on Tony's nerves.

i go back and forth with paulie. sometimes, you can't help but love him, but other times... marone! just another testament to the near-perfect writing in this show.

You mean that perfect writing that spent a waste of 30 minutes on Jr. last episode? or the near perfect writing that put out a very lackluster season last time around? ;)

i will defer to my previous opinions in this thread, with the second and fourth quotes of mine being most significant.

exactly. sopranos can do no wrong.

couldn't disagree more. these characters are all so great that any time spent with them is quality time.

What was the deal with spending so much time on Vito's son? What a waste. So Vito's family is disfunctional. Big deal. I'd wager that all mafia families are disfunctional.

I didn't mind the Uncle Junior segment last week because he was an integral character for a long time and the character needed some closure.

Vito's son? I don't get it.

i thought it was pretty well done - continues to show the effect on family of the lifestyle (along with the thing between AJ and his woman)

it also served a vehicle to advance a potential conflict between tony & phil, showed the height of tony's gambling problem and gave insight to how both tony & phil deal with problems

not bad for something that really didn't take up that much of an episode - also helps provide some closure to yet another set of characters

That episodes running time was about 44 minutes. Whats with that? Other then that it was a good episode.

The kid is to bring a wedge between phil and Tony. Just more ammo IMO.

A whole episode on a gambleing problem that was never entioned before. These writers are buying time. They have one ending episode. All the rest they had no idea what to do.

they've been mentioning his gambling losses ALL season - it's all about the inevitable end that coming - the downward spiral of everything and the idea that Tony's living "with house money" after surviving the gunshot. But, Vegas loves the idea of you playing with house money for one reason - the house ALWAYS wins.

great episode and a continually strong final season.

I've got a question for everyone who's talking about "buying time" and not enough is happening. There's 5 episodes left, which basically means there's roughly 4.5 hours left of the show. Think about this in movie terms - GOODFELLAS - a 3 hour movie was a masterpiece that spanned 3 decades and covered as many people as this show does, if not more. Do you not think that movie was expansive enough? Were you waiting for more? Chase doesn't need 9 hours of climax and quite frankly, NO ONE could possibly write that - but what he is doing is an exceptionally strong build toward pitch black and I'm of the mind that when he gets there, probably by the third to last episode, it's going to be terrifying.

Wow. That episode felt like 2 hours. Not in a good way.

I hope so man, I hope so.

Very well said. I think the gambling problem has been there before. I think it surfaced when Tony was playing the horses.

oh man, the second they showed Tim Daly, the first thing that popped in my head was, "Oh, poor Tim Daly".

Down, down, down the rabbit hole we go and it just keeps getting darker. I love it.

That is what I thought. I told my wife, "Chris is going to hit him with that lamp." I had no idea. Poor guy.

Pauly Walnuts and Tony were classic.

Incredible episode. So good I've got to go back and watch it again. Christopher getting drunk and popping the Tim Daly character was just nuts. You'd think he would be easily trace-able to the crime scene. Very interesting scene with Tony and the Feds.

Something big is coming. Next week's trailer mentioned "it's all about to change".

you know what's awesome - even as drunk as Christopher was,he never touches ANYTHING in the apartment - he even wipes the door clean with his shirt as he walks out.

yeah. the second they showed Daly I knew he was a dead man. Great episode.

I think the entire series comes down to not some big war with Phil's family, but within the Soprano clan. My guess? Tony in the end has to kill Christopher and gets a reduced sentence for something because of terrorism. they've been setting the terrorist thing and those FBI guys up since last season.

Yeah, I noticed the door wiping effort on the way out, but wasn't noticing him not touching anything while inside. I got the feeling the shooting was a spontanious decision after Christopher realized he said way too much.

That's a good guess for sure. Lot's of drama there, and it would leave open the door for a future movie.
