No, never heard of it. I'll try to check it out.

Watching all this football (and I basically spent all day Sunday watching game after game--ah, the joys of being single) has made me want to dust off the old typewriter and write a sports movie about the game---there are so few of those nowadays... :D
My mother in law has a movie she is pitching that has a soccer player in it. People in the biz say people don't want anymore soccer movies.

Colin Firth in in the Fever Pitch show. You will like it. Great depiction of a fan watching a game convinced his team will blow the game in the end. :)

Hit close to home as a Cardinal fan.

Ambitious people don't pitch, they make the movie themselves. ;)

Good luck to your MIL though.

Ummm I would recommend the book by Nick Hornby over the movie any day.. Movie was ehhhh ok i guess...

another good soccer movie was Escape to Victory.. has Slyvester Stallone as a keeper in it with Bobby Moore, Pele... about a team of POW against the German National team.. VERY good movie and you can get it from any movie store for about 4-5 bucks it's so old...

Goal 2 was very good.. better then the first i think...

Mean Machine was one of my faves as well....

I didn't even know there was a Goal 2. I liked the first. I LOVED Mean Machine. One of my favorite Brit movies. I'll see if I can track down Escape to Victory.

EDIT: Ok, in the US it's simply called "Victory", and it's running for 7.99 at Amazon, so I may think about picking it up.

Goal 2 comes out August 29, 2008 on DVD.... I was lucky enough to get a copy a few months ago from a buddy... basically without ruining it santiago goes to real madrid from newcastle and the movies takes a bunch of turns from there....

supposed to be a trilogy where goal 3 santiago goes to play in the world cup... not sure what country he will end up playing for though....

I will probably just watch until I find a favorite. But until then Arsenal is in the lead.

If deep down you feel like heartbreak Cardinal football is in your sole then Sunderland is your team.

If you have ever wanted not to be a Card's fan (and actually meant it) then you have another 91 English Lge teams to choose from.

The Cards take A LOT out of me yearly. I have invested so much time and energy into them, but I wouldn't trade it for the world. I will have to check out Sunderland. Maybe they have the charm also.

Keano must be a heckuva salesman. Kaboul sounded dead-set against a move to the SoL before he talked to Roy. I like how the squad is shaping up. Still need another striker though. Maybe McGeady from Celtic?

Kaboul agrees Sunderland deal
Tottenham defender to undergo medical on Friday
By Lewis Rutledge Last updated: 24th July 2008

Younes Kaboul has agreed personal terms with Sunderland ahead of a proposed move to the Stadium of Light, according to Sky Sports News.

The Tottenham defender held talks with Black Cats boss Roy Keane over the weekend and now appears to be on the brink of completing his transfer.

He is set to undergo a medical on Friday before putting pen-to-paper on a contract.

Kaboul's agent Rudy Raba claimed last week the Frenchman was not interested in joining Sunderland, with Portsmouth also in the running to sign him.

But he looks to have been convinced by Keane and could be one of four Spurs players to make the switch to Wearside.

Sunderland have already signed Teemu Tainio on a three-year deal and Pascal Chimbonda is expected to follow in the very near future.

Steed Malbranque has also met with Keane to discuss personal terms.

Sunderland's scrappy like the Cards the year before we got Fitz...just good enough not to be the absolute worst ;)

Root for Newcastle...we have a great brew named after us ;)

Arsenal is my new team, and I'm still getting to know them, so I would think it's as good as any.
I've gotten into soccer/football as well over the past few months and Arsenal is my team too.

One thing that intrigued me as an American sports fan is the promotion/regulation at the end of every season. Instead of rewarding the worst team with the top pick in the draft, they get punished moved to a lower league. It would be pretty interesting to see that here. Of course you Cards fans probably wouldn't like it because they would be a couple of leagues from the top.

I also love the idea of multiple leagues for single teams. Bayern Munich, for example could conceivably play in 3 leagues: Bundesliga, The Champions League and I think there is a third, but it escapes me.

It's like having March Madness 3 times a year... :)

The Cards would be in training camp for YAFL if this were the case :(. But yeah, it is really cool how the promotion and relegation works.

The Champs league isn't like a league in the same way. There are small groups for the first part but it's basically a knockout cup.

It annoys me a bit that they changed the name to the Champions League from the European Cup around the same time they allowed teams that were not Champions of their respective countries to play in it.

If you want a real football team to support look no further than Leeds United. Hardcore fans like no other (although those Mackems and Geordies aren't bad) and everyone else hates us! Nothing like supporting a team nobody else likes.

If it must be a Prem team then Arsenal is definitely the best option. They have great players, a great manager, play beautiful football and most importantly aren't Liverpool, Manure or Chelsea!

They need to get another couple of midfielders mind after losing Flamini, Gilberto and Hleb.

:lmao:

Eh, it's a preseason game with us missing a ton of starters and subbing in some others. Also giving certain players trials.

I've been worried this offseason with the lack of signings, but Guthrie looks damn good, Guttierez should be exciting, we've now added Coloccini, and we're set to go after and should probably get Baptista. Martins will also be back, Owen's not going anywhere IMO, and Viduka will soon be healthy again. We might have a rough start to the season due to injuries, and we may not challenge for Europe because of it, but by season's end we'll be the talk of the league. King Kev will get us there.

I really like this signing. Keano is the type of manager who can keep an excitable player like Diouf in line. Sunderland need players with lots of EPL and international experience.

Diouf didn't score many goals last season, but he was a big part of keeping olton in the Prem. after Anelka left. He should be good cover until Jones gets back.

Black Cats seal Diouf deal
Diouf becomes Keane's fifth signing of the summer
Last updated: 28th July 2008

Sunderland have completed the signing of El Hadji Diouf from Bolton.

Diouf has inked a four-year deal at the Stadium of Light after passing a medical and agreeing personal terms.

The Senegalese international had been seeking a move away from Bolton since the end of last season and Sunderland have now taken him to Wearside.

Diouf is Sunderland's fifth signing of the summer and Black Cats manager Roy Keane was delighted to land the colourful forward.

"El Hadji is a great signing for us and we're thrilled to get him in," Keane told the club's official website.

"He has bags of Premier League and international experience, which is exactly what we've been targeting this summer.

Love to hate
"El Hadji has always been the kind of player opposition teams and supporters love to hate, a thorn in the side, and that's why we're delighted to now have him in our squad.

"Our coach, Ricky Sbragia, has also worked very closely with him and speaks extremely highly of him, so we're looking forward to working with El Hadji, I think he's a signing that will excite our supporters."
