Any suggestions?
After doing some quick looking around I see that both of the Bulls and Raptors have good PG depth and might be willing to part with one for a fair price. I would imagine I could find a few more with just a little more looking, but the situations appear to be out there to get a deal done.

Still, nothing makes sense. Take the point guard situation for example, the guys they have been rumored to be looking at trading the house for are arguably no better than Bledsoe or Bknight.

On top of it, they are actively looking for a younger talented PG, yet they traded for Melton and drafted Okobo. I dont think they got those two guys with hopes that they could some day be a great backup.

Pending Sarver explaining the firing in a half an hour, most of these 132 posts -- most of them -- have credible opinions about what caused the firing.

It could be one, two, three, four, five, etc., of the opinions stated.

The prospect of Sarver and two in-house replacements making the decisions (they are all part of the mess the roster is in) is not a solution.

Personally, I think that Igor went to Sarver and voiced his disappointment in the tremendously unbalanced roster he's been given. Way too many younger players. Way too many Small Forward, etc.

And that McDonough was the puppet and is now the scapegoat, neither of which is the way to run an NBA team. And that not very much is going to change.

Do you have any source suggesting that McD wasn't making decisions? Sarver has been pretty vocal the last few years about letting the basketball guys make the basketball decisions. Thus as long as it isn't Sarver making the decisions and someone different than McD then there is an actual chance of them working out.

Something must have gone down over the weekend. Timing of this just makes no sense. You fire him at the end of last season or you let him GM this season and then fire him at the end. We will never know, but something happened over the weekend. I wouldn't be surprised if McD fired himself. "I want this deal. If you don't sign off on it, you can fire me" or "No, not doing that deal. If you want such and such for such and such, you'll have to fire me" type of a thing.

He never showed a lot of self-awareness when he was here, so it's not surprising he hasn't gained any more since he left.

So true. He should at least be cognizant of not biting the hand that feeds you.

I would venture a guess that it had to do with some disagreement about something with the team... that then proceeded to get personal. I can only see Sarver being provoked by something like that.

Otherwise like many have mentioned, the timing of firing him merely for performance sake is really strange and random. We have all seen how blunt and impolitic McDonough could be. Sarver doesn't seem like the type of personality that would deal well with any criticism or disagreement from an employee.

Seems like a reasonable time to fire a GM, there probably is no good time to do it. It is surprising though.

I wonder if there is a quality PG out there that has refused to be traded here unless McD was gone?

'Just my opinion, from what we've read over the years.

It is interesting that you refer to Sarver letting the basketball guys make the basketball decisions over the last few years, which acknowledges that it was not the case prior to that. Chaos and unprofessionalism during the Sarver years.

And the solution? More puppets.

My 2 cents is he left the Suns vulnerable entering the season without a veteran point guard. He probably had opportunities to trade for one during the draft.

I remember it the same way as you do, Mainstreet. Chandler was asked if he wanted to be traded, and he said no.

What do you expect him to say - yes I want to be traded?

Ultimately he is not in control of the situation, to alienate yourself to the fans is not a good idea.

Goran Dragic is the only one who had serious beef with McD that fits the description. Assuming we have no interest in Bledsoe or IT. There is a major Dragic/ Igor connection.

Yes he has mention more than once in interviews that one of the things that he has learned from his early years is that he needs to leave basketball decisions to the basketball guys. That suggests that it is a mistake that he has at least learned from if he is outwardly admitting that he used to do it and that he recognizes that it is a mistake.

Actually, yes. Not one fan or a GM would hold it against a veteran player wanting out of a rebuilding situation and into a contending situation. Tyson was 100% in control of that situation.

They were both 2nd rounders. They may work out, they may not. They don't look like they are going to work out this season based on their play so far.

I don't think you can describe either as true point guards - which is what the suns need. We just need someone who is capable of getting the ball to Deandre on a consistent basis and hopefully be half way capable of hitting an open jumper.

No the answer is you say it to the GM and management in private. In no way is it a good idea to say that publicly - ever - unless you are a big time star that has leverage to force a trade.

Yeah, Tyson doesn’t strike me as a guy who will want to make waves publicly. He’d handle things behind the scenes.

Dr. Jones on July 25th started a thread entitled, "Wonder if Ryan McD knows he is going to be fired...."

'Good call!

And, as was posted earlier in this thread, it is interesting that 1Sun is nowhere to be found.

No it's not. This just circles back to what the Sarver critics have been saying all along.

Sarver is the real problem. Looks like he's the jackass who kept the team away from true tanking.

That article was a very misleading hatchet job. It was using old information as if it were current. We've known for several years that Ryan was initially forced to try and win without actually re-building. After the Dragic fiasco, Sarver stepped back. From all local reports he let Ryan run it his way. Now, Ryan has had 3 additional draft classes to rebuild this franchise and we are still left with a very imbalanced and non-competitive roster.

It's just a guess but like some here, I think trading up for Bridges was the final straw. We paid a premium for a position we didn't need while ignoring a major hole in the lineup. Even if Bridges turns out to be the 2nd best player in this class, we spent potential draft capital on a luxury item without providing for our basic needs.

Not to be a conspiracy theorist, but there is some logic to that. If it happens, I guess I'm okay with it, but I wonder what the Suns will have to give up. Is this the three-way with MIN for Butler, I suppose?
