The principal thing that strikes me about this team is that we have a coach and a GM who have gone all-in betting that a team built around two turn-over prone combo guards can compete at the highest level. I hoped we'd get LMA because I could see him getting very ticked off standing around while Bled and Brandon ran the clock down every possession probing for driving lanes - and Jeff might have heeded him when he complained about it. Or McD might have directed him to do so.

As it stands now they may take three years to realize it doesn't work well, especially not in the playoffs.

It worked brilliantly 2 years ago as the "two combo guards" were the only legit starters on a squad that won 48 games.

And they have hardly gone "all-in" with this bet. The roster is extremely flexible, as we've seen during this bout of free agency, we have no bad contracts on the roster.

Getting hung up on the guards is inane. Over the past few seasons the guard play has been the only thing keeping the team competitive, the front court has been garbage, swapping one of the "combo" guards for a more traditional player fixes nothing because that is not the problem.

The big difference from two years ago was the loss of Channing Frye, the emergence of Marcus Morris and the goon squad, and the addition of IT.

I can do the math.

Plus it was one season. We don't know if that was just a gimmick year in which it worked. The fact that most other teams in the league don't run a double PG offense tells me it's not something we should entertain doing further unless they really think their smarter than the rest of the league.

Yeah, and they still stayed in the playoff hunt for most of the year because of the play of our guards and despite our awful front court.

The problem is not our guards, it never has been. We need to upgrade the front court talent, which we've done a bit of.

Its not about 2 PGs, its about 2 guys who can run the offense and attack, which virtually every decent team in the league features.

I don't think either of those guys are ready for all the minutes that will be available. They will still get lots of minutes even if Green is on the roster.

I would love to bring Bogdan in now.

There won't be any minutes for Bogdan, Goodwin & Booker if Green comes back. All it would do is piss off everyone at that position because of no minutes like last season.

And maybe keep Lee on the cheap after this season. Anyway, lots of ideas for the Suns to ponder. It will be interesting to see how McDonough attacks it.

I wonder it's possible (salary cap wise) for Suns to trade Tucker to CLE for Haywood's unguranteed contract & then trade that contract to GSW for Lee.

Lee is a bad defender like Markieff but he used to be a much better rebounder which he can probably get back to here.

I'm not sure how the Suns feel about Lee but he is a $15,493,680 expiring contract. They might be able to sign him to a lesser contract after this coming season. It's hard to know what the Suns are thinking.

I am thinking that Alex Len should start over Chandler, regardless of what we pay Chandler. I was looking at video of Chandler and Len this last year, and Len clearly has more to offer. I am not disappointed about signing Chandler, he should get plenty of minutes, it just that Len is really ready to break out. Chandler pushing him from behind might be exactly what he needs. Chandler has fantastic defensive instincts, but Len has more offensive potential, especially shooting out to 20 feet or so.

A player the Suns might consider is MarShon Brooks. I think he signed a 1 year deal last August with an Italian team. He has some potential yet.

I don't think Chandler would have agreed to come here if he knew he was gonna be coming off the bench for Len.

Maybe later in his contract it happens but not the first couple years IMO.

This could be. The thing that struck me the most last season was the Suns needed quality depth at center.

I would still like the Suns to sign another quality big man like Jordan Hill (I know he's on your wish list too) because the health of both Len and Chandler may be big question marks.

Signing Jordan Hill would make me happy but I think the Suns will be content to fill out their roster with low salary players unless they can make a trade.

I would be fine with flipping a guy like Tucker for picks and starting Warren at SF and then signing someone like Jordan Hill with the money.

I'd do it because SFs/SGs are easier to obtain than a reasonable FC. If McDonough does something like this I would be pleasantly surprised.

Somehow, we need to replicate the Barkley scenario, a disgruntled, "underappreciated", at least in his own mind, open to moving out West for a change of scenery. Problem today is though, they are throwing money at everyone, even the mediocre players. So I am just not seeing anyone like that who fits the bill.

We traded for Barkley so he didnt have much choice in deciding where he went, unless he had a no trade clause and agreed to the trade? But I agree with your premise. Anyway we can get someone of value, lets do it.

Not Barbosa. He would have helped as a combo guard.

And the winner should be Jordon Hill..

Barkley forced his way out to Houston. Jerry obliged.
