We traded for Barkley so he didnt have much choice in deciding where he went, unless he had a no trade clause and agreed to the trade? But I agree with your premise. Anyway we can get someone of value, lets do it.

I may have overstated that aspect, but Barkley was fine with moving on to Phoenix it seemed, he had burned his bridges in Philly

Barkley had been on the trading block for a number of reasons:

-- The 76ers finished 35-47, the poorest in Barkley`s eight years.

-- Barkley`s playing style did not mesh with the passing-game offense that will be adapted by the 76ers new coach, Doug Moe.

-- Barkley`s outspokenness and behavior were a constant concern.

Hours before the trade, Barkley was acquitted in a Milwaukee court of disorderly conduct and battery stemming from a fight outside a bar last winter in which Barkley broke a man`s nose.

Such controversy follows Barkley. On various occasions he has criticized 76ers management, criticized teammates and clashed with reporters.

Nevertheless, no one doubts what Barkley can do on the court. And many fans in Philadelphia were already questioning whether the 76ers had received enough in return for Barkley.

Sixers General Manager Jim Lynam said it was the best offer he had received for Barkley. The 76ers preferred to trade him to a Western Conference team. And while Lynam acknowledged that Johnson had been discussed in the trade talks, he indicated that the salary cap made it difficult for Philadelphia to fit Johnson in.

``We were looking for a package, and once those names were there, we felt it was the package that would get it done,`` Lynam said. ``Charles has said he wants to be on a contender, and in all honesty, if we had kept Charles, I`m not sure we could strike that posture. We had to make changes. No one in our organization felt we could come back with the same team.``

Hornacek, 29, led Phoenix in scoring last season (20.1 points a game) and can play both guard positions.

THE BARKLEY DEAL WHO THE SUNS GET

-PLAYER: Charles Barkley, 6-4, forward.

-KEY STAT: Barkley (23.1 ppg., 11.1 rpg.)

-WINDERMAN COMMENT: Where will all the balls come from to keep Barkley, Kevin Johnson and Tom Chambers happy? With the move, the Suns obviously are planning to move Dan Majerle into the starting lineup at off-guard and likely will need big minutes from Jerrod Mustaf to back up aging Mark West in the middle. With Mustaf and Majerle available, the Suns should only feel the loss of Hornacek, which makes the Barkley acquisition almost a steal.

-QUOTE: ``Phoenix is not a bad place. I could play golf every day.`` -- Barkley.

But of course there is this:

The Sixers, in an effort to keep Barkley happy during his final season in Philadelphia, had gone so far as to allow their star player to wear Cunningham's retired No. 32 in honor of Magic Johnson, who had announced he was HIV positive. But by the end of the season, Barkley demanded a change of scenery.

"Charles decided he wasn't going to be a good teammate in Philly anymore," Williams said. "He didn't think the team would win, was discouraged, thought his whole career was going to be winless and just forced his way out of town, which stars can do."

I think that would make the Suns much more versatile on offense. Give the Suns the spacing they severely lack.

I do think Markieff is the better player of the 2, but Anderson would be a better fit.

It will be really interesting to see what Markieff does with Marcus no longer on the team. Bottom line it will show you his maturity.

Anderson is a Channing Frye clone, so I guess if we can't get Frye back Anderson will do. Morris maybe younger, healthier and marginally better but his poor attitude, putrid rebounding and the length of his contract would be nice to get rid of. If PHX does in fact trade for Anderson, whom is absolutely available, he is an expiring contract so we have even more cap space to pursue FA's next year. The only thing I hope is PHX doesn't get rid of a young piece like Warren to make sure the deal happens (dilusional NO fans I've read are thinking they can get Warren included in the deal).

Another possibility that intrigues me is Cody Zeller if he is still available. PHX, Hornacek in particular was said to be very high on him in the draft but he went 1 pick ahead of PHX. He is a nice young piece you can add to the core of Len, Knight & Bledsoe. He isn't a 3pt shooter but he can knock down jumpers from top of the key range, excellent pick and roll player who gets to the rim and finishes very well in the paint.

I am still feeling a Lee trade but additional moves would have to be made to accommodate his expiring salary of $15M.

Yeah, I'd be ticked if we threw younger players into the deal, and I doubt that happens anyway. Markieff is clearly the more valuable of the two, if anything I think the Pelicans would have to up the ante.

Just sign Teletovic rather than give up assets for Frye or Anderson.

no one is in for Josh Smith? i thought he showed a lot in the playoffs, he was huge in that comeback win against the Warriors. Good passing and can stretch the floor. i'd have him over Markieff at this point.

Josh Smith has frustrated deeply every team he has ever played for. Horrible shot selection. Think Shannon Brown. He is a better defender and rebounder but then he gets paid a lot more. He is ok on a team like Houston , but he would rob our young guys of their gray matter.

When I watched Mirza Teletovic play, I thought he was a very interesting player. However, I understand he had some serious health issues last season which needed to be resolved. If he is healthy, he would be a good pickup but I think he may be a RFA.

Yep, he is a good defender but is Beasley on offense.

He had that one amazing game, then killed Houston for the rest of the games chucking shots he shouldn't have been taking.

WTH???? Why are they wasting a roster spot and cap space on this guy, he's not a PF.

It seems that the Suns have added a PG in Price but Weems also is capable of handling the ball as well plus he is a shooter. Goodwin can handle the ball to some degree as well.

What I found particularly interesting is that Weems is projected to be the first guard off the bench and the Suns are putting their money where their mouth is. I like that Price and Weems contracts are only guaranteed for one season.

With Dallas getting shanked by Jordan the Suns odds for a playoff birth have improved immensely.

The general line of thought had been Portland will drop out, the Thunder will jump up and the Suns would have to find someone else to leap frog in. Now, I think Dallas is not a playoff team and a serious candidate to blow up their roster partway through the year.

An aged Dirk, Parsons, a post achilles Wes Matthews... then it gets really ugly.

Let's get Dirk.

I wonder if Amare is holding out to see if some team gets desperate enough to offer him some major coin or if he has priced himself out of the market. There has been no news on the Amare front. Bring him in to come off the bench.

The last word I've read is that Amare will visit Miami on Friday. The Heat seem to love Suns players, e.g., Dragic, Green and maybe Amare.

Because bad defense playing point-a-minute guys aren't hard to find. Sonny Weems at the very least is a similar player with better defensive ability and Booker hopefully can provide some instant offense eventually.

Why keep Green if there is no other reason to do so?
