Just switched to Verizon to get the Storm2 (have always had a blackberry for work and get a 20% discount through work). Let me just say that this phone is amazing. For everything that was wrong with the origional Storm, this phone is just awesome. I have been playing with it nonstop since it came out Wednesday. The fact that you can choose how you want to type to me is huge, you can use a full keyboard, suretype, or multi-tap. Just brilliant.

Hopefully Verizon's customer service is better, because that was the reason why I left in the first place. But now with the discount and the Storm 2 it was worth giving Verizon a second chance. So far though they have been very helpful and were awesome in getting everything set up for me and my family the first day.

Have been a Verizon customer for years, no complaints from me. I still have the POS freebie phone, but I'm eagerly awaiting the new Droid.

I'll probably have to wait until my current contract expires to qualify for the discounts, but I'm pretty jacked up for it.

LA Times:

First impression: The device is fast, powerful, fully featured and well-designed -- a combination of adjectives we've never used for a Verizon cellphone.

Washington Post:

Motorola is quick to point out that the Droid's 480-by-854-pixel display offers 409,920 pixels, more than double the 153,600 pixels that the 480-by-320-pixel, 3.5-inch screen on the iPhone 3GS offers. The Droid's resolution also compares well against that of Android 1.6-based phones such as T-Mobile's myTouch 3G, which has a 3.2-inch, 480-by-320-pixel display.

Popular Mechanics:

The Droid is one of the most solid and impressive phones we’ve ever felt (and one of the heaviest—in a good way). It has a decent 5-megapixel camera, a slide-out keyboard (despite being just a hair thicker than the iPhone), one of the biggest and best phone screens we’ve ever seen (at 3.7 inches, it’s also bigger than the iPhone’s 3.5-inch screen), and, most remarkable of all, completely free turn-by-turn GPS navigation courtesy of Google (a feature that caused TomTom and Garmin stocks to nosedive overnight).

Knowing that not everyone wants to pay $30 extra bucks a month for a Droid or an iPhone, I submit this....

Cnet.com has rated the EnV Touch as their "Editors Choice". In short, based on the websites independant testing.... It won. And yes, it beat the new iPhone.

EnV Touch review: http://reviews.cnet.com/cell-phones...4_7-33665903.html?tag=contentMain;contentBody

The good: The LG enV Touch has two beautiful displays, a nice touch-screen interface, and a great QWERTY keyboard. It has impressive features, such as a 3.2-megapixel camera, EV-DO Rev. A, and a full HTML Web browser.
The bad: The LG enV Touch's touch-screen interface could use some refinement, and the Web browser experience is not as smooth as we would like. Visual Voice Mail and corporate e-mail support costs additional monthly fees. The lack of Wi-Fi is disappointing.
The bottom line: The LG enV Touch's combination of great design and top-notch features makes it one of the top Verizon Wireless Wireless phones we've ever seen.

3Gs review: http://reviews.cnet.com/smartphones...2_7-33674173.html?tag=contentMain;contentBody

The good: The iPhone 3GS finally adds common cell phone features like multimedia messaging, video recording, and voice dialing. It runs faster; its promised battery life is longer; and the multimedia quality continues to shine.
The bad: The iPhone 3GS' call quality shows no improvements and the 3G signal reception remains uneven. We still don't get Flash Lite, USB transfer and storage, or multitasking.
The bottom line: The iPhone 3GS doesn't make the same grand leap that the iPhone 3G made from the first-generation model, but the latest Apple handset is still a compelling upgrade for some users. The iPhone 3GS is faster and we appreciate the new features and extended battery life, but call quality and 3G reception still need improvement.

Nice.... Alltel seems to get all kinds of awards like this. I though, have never set foot in one of their stores. I have lived in three different time zones and only ever driven past them.

Seems weird to me that before VZW and Alltel merged they were considered a national carrier.

Congrats to T-Mobile for crashing the party!!!

AT&T Airs Weak 'Comeback' Commercial Against Verizon

http://www.informationweek.com/blog...l;jsessionid=GYOSSZWZ4MIFTQE1GHOSKH4ATMY32JVN

Today an Atlanta judge denied AT&T's request for a temporary restraining order against Verizon Wireless. AT&T was hoping to silence (or at least alter) the vicious ads airing on national television which poke holes (literally) into AT&T's 3G coverage.

Hilarious....http://www.pcworld.com/article/182797/atandts_verizon_map_suit_a_risky_necessity_lawyer_says.html
Given the stakes for AT&T, Zellerbach doesn't think this qualifies as a frivolous false-advertising suit. However, he does think that AT&T has a very steep hill to climb if they're going come out of the suit successful. For one thing, he notes that the company is not challenging the accuracy of the 3G coverage maps showing that Verizon's 3G network covers vastly more geographical area in the United States than does AT&T's. Second, he notes that Verizon very clearly labels the maps as "AT&T 3G Coverage" and "Verizon Wireless 3G Coverage."

Of course, winning the case is only one of AT&T's problems. The fact that a federal judge recently denied AT&T's request to order the ads stopped means that the ads will continue to air while the court hears out AT&T's case. If the case becomes a drawn-out affair, AT&T could still be massively damaged by the ads even if it ends up winning the case.
"If this goes on for a while then the damage will have already been done," Zellerbach says.

Verizon's official response....http://www.networkworld.com/news/2009/111709-verizon-mocks-att.html
"AT&T did not file this lawsuit because Verizon's 'There's A Map For That' advertisements are untrue," said the introduction. "AT&T sued because Verizon's ads are true and the truth hurts."

AT&T's official response....
http://www.dailytech.com/Interview+With+ATT+About+Verizons+Deceptive+Ads/article16890.htm

AT&T's public relations representative, Seth Bloom (an employee with Fleischman-Hillard), contacted us, looking to give us his company's views on the debate.

He dodges this one COMPLETELY.. lol
DailyTech: Is Verizon's map of your 3G coverage incorrect? (I'm talking specifically about 3G coverage, not misinterpretation.)

SB:They chose geographic coverage. What the maps don't show is that about 75 percent of Americans - 233 million people - can access AT&T 3G services today where they live and work. AT&T offers 3G service to roughly 81% of the customers to whom Verizon offers 3G.

DailyTech: Accuracy aside, do you feel the coverage map is deceiving? Also, as it says 3G coverage, why do you feel customers won't be able to figure it out, if that's the reason why you feel it's deceptive?

SB: Yes, we feel the coverage map is deceptive and independent research has shown that Verizon's commercials mislead some consumers into thinking AT&T does not offer any wireless service in a vast area of the country. In addition to the 75 percent of Americans - 233 million people - who can access AT&T 3G services today where they live and work, all of the activities shown in the Verizon television advertisements can be done on AT&T's 2.5G EDGE network, which is available to more than 296 million people where they live and work and across the vast majority of the United States. The ads undermine the public's confidence in the coverage of AT&T's network and in how we represent that coverage.
That's not 3G (Edge Network). lol

DailyTech: What steps is AT&T taking to upgrade its 3G network?

SB:AT&T invested more than any other U.S. public company in 2008, and plans to spend between $17 and $18 billion this year, with billions dedicated to the wireless network. AT&T is setting expectations and standards for the technology community, encouraging them to develop the more sophisticated hardware, software and standards to handle the volumes and applications we're seeing on our wireless network.
Verizon Wireless is Privately Held. And we spent more. lol

We're preparing for field trials of 4G LTE wireless networks next year, with deployment planned to follow in 2011. This schedule aligns with industry expectations of when a wide variety of compatible 4G wireless devices will be available.
VZW is deploying LTE next year, and will be nearly a full year ahead of AT&T for the foreseeable future.

This is fun stuff for me. Sorry for the constant updates.

Finally just to hit the point home.....

--AT&T claims the fastest network but speed is useless on a network that drops calls frequently and has 1/5th the coverage. (Wired.com ranked VZW first place in download speed. A PCWorld.com survey reported Verizon Wireless had the fastest download speeds in seven of the 13 test markets and beat AT&T on reliability in 12 of the 13).

--VZW's network is built on coverage, capacity and speed - AT&T is trying to lead customers into thinking that just speed matters

--No carrier invests more in their network than Verizon Wireless - $50 billion since 2000. A MarketWatch article encouraged AT&T to “put some of the millions it is paying its lawyers into further upgrading its network.”

I loved Alltel...was the best by far I've been with. Hated Sprint. HATE HATE HATED AT&T with their horrid coverage. Loved Alltel. Now that Alltel is Verizon, I am fingerscrossed for the best.

My service contract will allow me another phone in the spring. Droid, here I come...hopefully Droid 2 or something, with all kinks worked out and apps a'plenty. That Google GPS app looks so sick that H1N1 is jealous.

I have been with Verizon for years after a bad experience with AT&T (no signal in my own house). Love the service and the coverage. The only complaint is that Verizon has always been lacking when it comes to smartphones.

I am on the verge of upgrading to the Droid. The only thing holding me back for now is that I would like to have a device on Verizon that is compatible with Slingbox Mobile (I-phone has it). So far, slim pickings. Hopefully an app for the Droid is not far off.

If you want slingbox mobile then get the touch pro 2. Two of my employees have it and I think it looks freaking amazing. On a flight or desk it will tilt up to give you hands free viewing.

The imagio will work as well but the keyboard is a must for me. Cnet loves the touch pro's keyboard.

And I have had a Droid since the day before launch. No bugs, no issues. Motorola gives you a free media transfer app on their website that is a lot like iTunes. I have about 4 GB's of music and every SNES and Genesis game ever made on my droid. And for the record. The navigation program is probably the most revolutionary thing I have ever played with on a mobile phone.

Camera .... Good. Social Networking.... Flawless. GPS.... Amazing.

And the phone runs so smoothly. It's crazy.

I've had the Droid for two weeks now. Not sure how I lived without it.

The GPS is flippin awesome. I was pleasantly surprised at how accurate the traffic feature works.

I'm still sorting through all the apps out there. Google Sky Maps is pretty cool. Costco shopping trips are a lot more fun now that I can walk around the store scanning the bar codes to compare prices using the scanner app.

I also love how easy it is to post youtube videos for my out of town relatives.

The only bug I've found is if you let the battery run down below 15% it goes into reduced sound mode. Then once you charge it back up it doesn't return to normal sound levels. You have to turn the phone off and back on to fix it. I almost overslept because I use this for my alarm clock and it was too quiet to wake me up.

OK..... I have already downloaded (via torrent) every Nintendo and Super Nintendo Rom and placed them onto my Luscious 16GB card.

Then I downloaded NEDdroid and SNesdroid. These are the emulators you need to open and play the rom.

Amazing stuff my friends...

Now I find this..... http://www.nebudroid.com/videos.htm

#5 on the list of worst tech gadgets of 2009..... the AT&T 3G network.

http://finance.yahoo.com/family-home/article/108279/best-and-worst-tech-gadgets-of-2009

5. AT&T 3G Network

We hate to kick them when so many others have come before us. But spotty 3G coverage and overloaded networks have hobbled Apple's iPhone and App Store in some big cities and kept us from adding the iPhone 3GS to the list of this year's best gadgets. A delay in offering multimedia text messaging (while still charging for it) also merits a bucket of coal.

Oh.... and Consumer reports is about to list the #1 wireless company in their "Best Cell Phone Deals" edition (January 2010).

Verizon Wireless won. And AT&T was last behind Sprint and T-Mobile most of the time.

Where is VZW ranked #1?? Some of the main cities are:

Atlanta
Boston
Charlotte, N.C.
Chicago
Cleveland
Columbus, Ohio
Dallas-Fort Worth
Denver
Detroit
Houston
Indianapolis
Jacksonville
Las Vegas
Los Angeles
Miami
Minneapolis-St. Paul
New York
Philadelphia
Phoenix
San Antonio
San Diego
San Francisco
Seattle
St. Louis
Tampa, Fla.
Washington D.C.

All of these consumer reports don't change my mind about how I feel about my phone and the service I get. I have an Iphone (surprise surprise) and have been completely satisfied with AT&T and my phone. I know anytime likes to post every single possible award that comes out about verizon but when it comes down to it I base my opinion off of my personal experience. I know the droid is supposed to be the new hot thing and it may be but I still like my phone and my service and have zero complaints.

You have what you have dude.... That's cool with me.

All I am doing is posting what is out there from independent sources. I bet if the iPhone was exclusive to Verzon you would be a VZW customer. That factor alone makes you the exact person this thread is not intended for. It is for the people who are looking for a clear leader.

Just look at Luke Wilson's commercials. They have no facts! They are supposed to be catchy and elusive. That is what AT&T has. iPhones, and actors.

Well the iPhone is good enough for me and millions of other people. Who exactly is this thread intended for then because every other day a new post is posted about how verizon is the best ever?

Top 10 gadgets of 2009....http://www.time.com/time/specials/packages/article/0,28804,1945379_1944278_1944280,00.html

#1 - The Droid.

Everybody likes Android, Google's open-source smartphone operating system. But a smartphone operating system isn't all that satisfying without an actual kick-ass smartphone wrapped around it. Now Android has one: The Droid is a hefty beast, a metal behemoth without the gloss and finish of the iPhone, but you don't miss it. The Droid's touchscreen is phenomenally sharp and vivid, it has an actual physical (not great, but good enough) keyboard, and best of all, the Droid is on Verizon's best-of-breed 3G network. It's Android's first credible challenge to the iPhone. Price: $300.

The iPhone 3GS finished # 4 behind a fan, and an e-reader.

I have been looking into getting the driod for a while now.

For those of you that have it, is there an easy way to transfer my contacts from Outlook to the droid?

Ive had a WM phone for 3 years and would love an easy transfer of contacts.

I've had one for a couple of weeks now. I absolutely love it!

The Droid is a GPS receiver, MP3 player, satellite (internet) radio, 5 MP camera, video camera, and computer/internet all in one. Oh....and you can make phone calls on it too!

To answer the question, yes it's very easy to export your contacts and calendar from Outlook and import them into the Droid. All you need is a GMail account. Takes about 30 seconds.

All is want to know is how can I get the droid for $200 like the rest of the world. I am an existing customer (since the Alltel buyout) and I am not eligible for a new phone deal until October of next year. I really don't think I should be held to that since I never signed a contract with Verizon. I want the Droid but really don't want to pay $600 for it.
