CBus, while I didn't watch every play but Jake Mathews looked very good. The A&M defense is not very good, and the Bama OL is VG and I'll let the FO make the call, but would be happy with either.

Mathews did play well and he is very good. I just think Kouandjio is elite.

My signature says it all. I choose Lewan simply because I don't think we will draft low enough to grab the other two. Trade back into the first to land ASUs own Will Sutton. Goodbye Dockett!

I appreciate all of you who watch college FB and give your opinions on the players.

My contribution will be to list my opinion of what the Cards biggest needs are.

OLB/Pass rusher. QB is the most important position on an NFL team. After that the debate is between a pass rusher and LT. While we could use an upgrade at LT the glaring hole on this D is a pass rusher.

LT is the next need.

TE is the 3rd highest need. Now when Housler comes back and if he explodes in a good way then a second OLBer is more of a need.

TE/OLBer, these are interchangeable for 3rd and 4th biggest needs noting that we need a OLBer as our number 1 need as well.

SS - Bell is ancient and TM & TJ both look like FS's to me.

CB - Powers had a good game today but let's not think we are set yet.

WR - Floyd looks good but Roberts is most likely leaving via FA.

OC - Sendlein is very solid but let's take this Oline to the next level.

I expect my list to change after this next weeks game.

Looking at the top QB prospects for next years draft they are almost all running QBs

Brett Hundley
Tajh Boyd (lesser extent)
Marcus Mariota
Johnny Manziel
Teddy Bridgewater is the only traditional pocket passer

Since Arians doesn't believe in running QBs or the read/option it'll be interesting to see who they like best. Too bad it's too early for Jameis Winston.

PLEASE don't pull the "he's too short" card. When will people ever learn? :bang:

Not going to happen.

And yet year after year likely this year included teams will pass on guys because of their measurements.

Sutton put on almost 20 pound this year, has lost some quickness,i think he can be geno atkins type of player but he must keep his weight around 285.now he is 307....
He was 300 as a freshman,261 as sophomore,288 as a junior and now listed 307.
He was distruptive force last year with 23 tackle for loss and 13 sacks playing at 285 lb

* playing football is not a model casting, are not important the measures but the talent ,instict and desire to improve.

Give me Tajh Boyd. After watching him against Georgia and now tonight. He had a rough first half, but I thought he rebounded well. I remember reading somewhere that Michael Bidwill wanted Russell Wilson. Steve Keim is at the game tonight.

We need to groom a quarterback for the future. I am happy with Carson Palmer at the moment, but even if he has a good or great season I'd like to see them draft a quarterback.

This is a good year for drafting a QB. I haven't scouted many others yet other than what I've read.

There are some very good Tackles coming out as well. I won't be disappointed if we take one high insted of a QB. I just think we need to solidify that position the most.

I've said before that, if Boyd was 6'3, he'd unquestionably be the consensus #1 pick.

However, if Arians likes big QB's, which he does, I can't see Keim forcing a guy like Boyd on him.

How can we say this with any certainty? I've heard people say the same thing about Arians not liking mobile QBs, despite having Ben Roethlisberger and Andrew Luck at his last two stops.

FWIW, Arians has been an assistant coach for a very long time with a bunch of franchises with powerful general managers. I (and I can't believe I'm saying this) trust Keim with personnel decisions more than I trust Arians.

Although I do like that Arians placed Ryan Williams firmly on the bench. Pretty clear picture on who wanted to keep Lil Soreness on the roster at the final cutdown.

You are right, this basically was the first year that Arians has had strong input on the draft. (Offensive Coordinators don't make player decisions for teams)

Arians,of course, will have input but IMO Keim is calling the shots.

It depends on the organization. It's not at all uncommon for teams to use their position coaches and coordinators as cross-scouts for prospects in the draft process (they're not doing much else besides playing golf in the offseason). Tomlin was a head coach with a defensive background, although the Steelers have a very strong personnel department.

I think that Keim and Michael Bidwill are predisposed to seek consensus and buy-in from the coaching staff. The ultimate authority is (likely) with Keim, on drafting players, free agency signings, and (maybe) the final 53-man roster. If Arians is surpassingly successful (like 10 wins this season, 10+ next year, etc.), he'll gain more authority in personnel decisions.

I think when they refer to "mobile QBs" they are talking about guys like Kaepernick and Vick. Guys who aren't traditional pocket passers. Both Big Ben and Luck are traditional pocket passers who happen to have the athleticism to make plays with their feet when the pocket breaks down, but they don't exactly run a lot of designed running plays or anything.

Keep an eye on QB Derek Carr. He's lighting it up for Fresno St. this year. I've been reading a bunch of positive reports on him.

The other qb name getting pub is Jeff Mathews out of Cornell. Scouts saying he has possibly the strongest arm of all the prospects. Possibly a jay cutler like rise.

A guy no one is talking about is the QB Jeff Mathews from Cornell. He's had an impressive career, yes he's in the ivy league, but it seems scouts have taken a liking to him. He's a tall, strong, accurate pocket passer. Matches Bruce Arians idea of a QB. He is likely to be in the 1-3 round range which says a lot about a QB from Cornell.

Can't get behind Boyd until he improves his horrendous footwork plus I hate what that offensive system does to QB prospects.

Living in Portland may be swaying me, but I am on the Marcus Mariota bandwagon. The same guys who said Dion Jordan would struggle in the NFL feels Mariota is a smarter Kaepernick with stronger arm who will be a throw first, run second QB. Who needs a LT if you have that and with all the QB's, he could be there as late as 10.
