I am telling you.. the Manning Sweepstake is JUST LIKE THE GOP!

Arizona is Mitt Romney, the only constant, every time anyone talks the consensus is the Cardinals are the best fit, they have gotten the MAJORITY of the major endorsements, yet just can't pull away

Denver is Santorum. No one in their right mind understands why and how this option is getting more and more momentum. It seems inferior in may ways, and so many red flags, yet like we are living in the twilight zone, they remain in the race and some feel a front runner.

Miami- Newt. Was a front runner, burned hot at first, and then fizzled quick as soon as people actually starting looking into it deeper. Does not have a legit chance at getting Manning, yet refuses to bow out, will continue until the end, while everyone but him knows how this one will turn out.

Tennessee- is Ron Paul. Perhaps the sentimental pick, a guy many believe would make some sense, but ultimately have no real substance and no real shot at winning either, is there more for show than anything at this point..

Tell me I am wrong!

I like it.... aside from how depressed it makes me to be a registered Republican

Let's say Manning signs with Denver or Titans, then we upgrade big time. Like signing two tackles, replace Heap with Clark, bring in a quality #2 and another quality DE/OLB.
Don't forget resigning Marshall and CC and restructuring Fitz's contract.

You think Peyton will be pissed?

Perhaps, but Adams is the antithesis of class. IMO, he's handled this situation (amongst other QB situations) rather unprofessionally. He's essentially forcing Peyton on the coaching staff (not necessarily a bad thing), but the coaches feel confident with their current crop of QBs.

Sound familiar? He did the same thing with Vince Young and Jeff Fisher. Fisher thought Collins was the best fit for the team.
Those are all good points, but let's keep some perspective. I don't think that will at all affect peyton's decision. Jim Irsay is very outspoken as well just as many other owners in today's sports are. Aside from that who is the titan's current QB? I don't even know his name? If peyton manning can really play why would you not want him unless you had someone better? clearly they do not.

Bud Adams has been very successful for years. His teams have contended for years. When he has had a franchise QB at the helm he has won a lot of games. I think his loyalty has always been to franchise type QB's which is why he pushed so hard for vince to be that guy. He is very loyal to his guys. Warren moon, steve mcnair, jeff fisher, mike munchak, etc. all in house type guys that he kept for years in the organization. Peyton is obviously looking for that. Then tennessee has a lot that AZ can't offer. His wife is from memphis, he played in knoxville. Nashville is in the same region as Indianapolis. He knows all of the defenses in that division. This is smelling good for titans fans if they can afford to sign peyton.

Bud Adams is senile, not outspoken.
the real question here is do the titans have the cap space to sign peyton. to me that is the difference. If so I think there is a very strong chance he will be a titan if Bud Adams wants him bad enough.

I guess I disagree. No name unproven coach, primary WR's who would be #2's at best elsewhere. If his wife was so homesick for TN their condo would be there, not Miami.

Peyton wants to win, TN is a rebuilding franchise in every sense of the word aside from Chris Johnson. Arizona is 2 lineman and a QB away from true playoff contention.

well, nothing much to add
we'll just need to wait till tomorrow unless PM emerges after his meeting as a Titan
my only take on this, why does PM want to face Indy twice?
- could it affect his legacy in Indy?
- what if he loses to Luck, will it prove that Indy were right to cut him?
I hope PM is not driven by revenge

I think I wouldn't care what Peyton Manning would think at that point. I would just be thankful we finally addressed our offensive line. It really wouldn't matter it would just bring us a huge step closer that we've ignored for years. If we would have fixed this offensive line years ago he probably would've signed when he was in Arizona on his visit. Either way it's a win for us and is long overdue.

Anybody read MSN's homepage that Manning narrowed his list to Denver or the Titans?

You can find a report to suit your particular team. Every team involved, and many not, are reported finalists for him. Pay no attention to rumors right now.

When I think about it, I think Denver is out of it

He visited Denver first, if they were better than us, he would have picked Denver right away
now it seems we were better than Denver or at least matched them so he couldn't make up his mind and continued exploring.

I see tennessee as an equal as AZ as far as where that organization is from a competitive standpoint. I didn't say his wife was homesick and she probably is not because she can go home anytime. I said that she is from memphis, if she was from Tucson and they went to school in flagstaff do you not think that some people would be using that as a point of emphasis for his decision?

I think the biggest factor here is the familiarity that peyton has with tennessee because he played in that division for so many years. it would be a smooth transition for him. peyton doesn't need pro bowl WRs to be successful. I think the best Qb's in the NFL make guys look better than they really are. peyton has done that for years. not that he wouldn't love to play with Fitz because for the cards that's a huge factor in their favor. but when you look at the whole aspect of his decision, tennessee makes more sense if they are willing to pay him. Bill Polian was on espn earlier and was saying that because Tennessee is in the colts division they have "home field advantage" here. he says that for peyton he always made it clear that he wants to be in the AFC. and that tenn would be a smooth fit if they could make it work. he said nothing about AZ. this is bill polian, who also said he has no inside info. but he is a good source of info is you ask me.

I agree on the familiarity advantage. But does he really want to go to the AFC south and have to both beat up his old team, as well as face that Houston D which is one of the best young D's in the league, and the best D Wade Philips has ever assembled?

Some buzz about the Mannings taking a future ownership/mgt position with Titans.

How about taking it one step farther - the old man is concerned about succession and makes the offer right now.

(Maybe that's what Adams meant when he said that Peyton was the one man he wanted for the Titans - only it involved Peyton in the FO as much or more than it did as a QB).

If he doesn't beat up on the Colts, someone else will. Also, a case could be made comparing the Whiners to the Texans. Thus, I don't see a huge difference there.

Why wouldn't he want to play the colts? They just cut him....If your boss let you go(assuming you are very competitive and I'm sure you are) wouldn't you want to stick it to him/her if given the chance. Sure peyton won't say that out loud. but he is as competitve as they come and I"m sure he would love nothing more than to beat up on the colts to end his career. Aside from that he would like to play every year in his hometown as well. This is just my opinion.

The NFC West may as well be the AFC South from a competitive standpoint. the 49ers front 7 is as brutal as there is in the leauge. why would that make any difference? every team in the league has holes(and play in a division where there is another team that is superior) if they are in the race for peyton manning at this point.

Niners are tough, they showed that last season. The Rams skinned the Redskins so they have like 3 extra 1st round draft picks and will be a force in the future. Not to forget a proven coaching staff and bounty program. Jeff Fisher played against Peyton many times, maybe Peyton is scared of Jeff Fisher and that he might be expoited? Seahawks have potential and plenty of cap space but I'm not a fan of Pete, unless Leinart, Deuce signs for him. Then it will be USC northwest. The NFC west is coming and will be the tough division. Last season we showed signs of owning the league and this season will be even better.

MichelleBeisner: Things are quiet here at The Cards facility. Team source telling me they are still very much in the mix to acquire Peyton Manning.

The Texans offense >>>>>>>>>> Whiners offense, period.
maybe so, but the 49ers were a couple of plays away from winning their conference. the texans were not. everyone is assuming that if schaub didn't get hurt they would have been in the superbowl. that is different than actually being as close as the 49ers were. at best you can make the arguement that they are on equal footing right now. no matter where peyton goes(unless he signs in denver) he has a team in that division that is solid. but be careful when you are looking at last year to make judgements about what will happen next year. Something tells me that the NFL landscape will be much different again next year, especially with a crazy free agency class like we are seeing now.
