All due respect, I think that's complete BS.

I think he's looking for the team with which he can best take to the next level, competition be damned. Competitors like Manning don't look for the easy way.

fair enough ... I respect your opinion, but then what is driving his decision? money? just playing for a good organization? he's already won 1 superbowl and lost one...what is his "next level"? Winning the SB is the highest level in the NFL isn't it? It's like saying the Patriots cut Brady and he's just looking to get to the next level. I can see your point for someone like Romo...or Vick..they are trying to get to the next level...

I simply mean, when you've been on-top that is what is driving him...to be back on top...no?

I agree with you both. I think that could be a factor, but peyton wouldn't walk away from the NFC just because his brother or the other QB's. having said that the NFC is stronger than the AFC right now and QB's have a lot to do with it.

I think it has more to do with peyton being more comfortable in the AFC in particular that same division. because he knows the teams more, but that isn't the final determing factor. it all goes together. It appears AZ is the only NFC team in the mix so they lead the way there as of now.

Let's liken it to shopping for a car. He doesn't care what his neighbors are driving. He wants the car that has heated seats, is rear-wheel drive, has a built-in GPS and a manual transmission. He'll likely have to settle for a partial list, but he doesn't take into account that someone down the block has a BMW and the guy across the street has a Hummer.

He looking for where he fits best, a team that is currently (or sill be by August) stocked with players that he can perform to the best of his ability....and that wants him.

Yamon, and having a retractable sunroof on the ride is nice too. ;)

EDIT: I hope he doesn't want the heated seats, that would be Sun Devil Stadium.

As each hour goes by, I am less and less confident we will get him. In fact, I am pretty much sure we will not.

I'm the opposite: as each hour draws on, I am more and more confident we get him. In fact, I'm pretty sure we will. I base this on nothing more than pure speculation, mind you. I keep harping on this, but I really think our organization has been the most professional out of all of them. I hate to use the term "*******" but it's the only one I can think of in regards to the way some of these teams are behaving.

We're the main team taking the professional, quiet, almost-Ken-Whisenhunt-like approach. Dude, we had 2 rotten, really rotten, seasons, and Whis didn't flinch (and we made a nice comeback last year).

He's not flinching now either, and he has all our dudes on lockdown in regards to comments or speculation. There's no possible way he didn't place the whole org on lockdown, because I haven't even heard a peep in the twitter-verse, not even a fun-hearted "Manning to AZ baby!" post. Nothing. Zilch.

That's professionalism. You take that in conjunction with the fact that even when things were rotten here the last two years, we really didn't have dudes going to the media and whining or getting out of line publicly, and that has to be appealing. People wonder why Dock and Fitz and Adub say they'd put it all on the line for Whis and that's part of it, because everything is handled behind closed doors in a professional manner. He goes to bat for his guys, even though behind closed doors he might be calling them the biggest screw-ups ever. How often have we gotten tired of him saying to give it time, the system works, I think the QB's played okay, I think Adub can still cover? Behind closed doors he isn't saying that, they see way more tape than we do, but he goes to bat for his guys and is professional in everything he does.

I truly believe the longer this goes on the more unstable, the more irrational, the more up-and-down these other organizations look compared to us. Whis is steady and even-keeled no matter what is happening. I think that appeals to Manning and I think he can play for a dude like Whis, and I think he'd love to throw to a professional like Fitz.

?..He also is willing to work out for any teams he considers serious finalists...
And those teams would be...?

It is nearly 10 pm ET Wed. Deadline is 4 pm ET Friday. That leaves roughly 42 hours for Cardinal reps to (1) determine that they are "finalists", (2) arrange to fly in (or have Peyton fly out) to work out for the team, (3) hold the work out and review it, (4) talk money, (5) agree to terms and (6) sign off on a deal.

Logically, it will be awfully difficult for us to pull this sucker off by deadline..

Funny, if that's the analogy, then he hasn't exactly been shopping at the high end dealerships. None of the 3 are BMW's or Mercedes over the last few years. Maybe he just sees himself as the best driver out there that looks good in anything ... and he might be right ...

At least we can agree we'd like to hand him the keys to our car and see what he can do with it ...

I was thinking about this on my way home from work actually. People point to the other teams he's considering and they're like, "but they don't have Fitz," or "they have such and such guy at WR", but I think you're right, when you're Peyton Manning, I wonder how much you really care about the talent level of receivers. Sure it'd be nice to throw to Fitz, but you have to think Peyton believes he can turn any receiver into a good or great one. He can throw guys open, has tremendous confidence in himself, and just maybe thinks the talent at WR isn't as important as other considerations. Nobody knew anything about Garcon until Peyton started throwing to him, and he possibly believes he can turn any WR into Pro-Bowl material.

Earlier this week I was wondering if he could turn Roberts into a receiver like Garçon so I know what you're saying and I agree to an extent. At the same time, talent will make his job easier

Which is exactly what I stated a few days ago might happen & why I didnt feel we would get PM...time. IMO he wont decide on his new team until Monday at the earliest & I dont see them cutting Kolb on the assumption Manning signs with us. I just don't think the Cards are putting all their eggs into the basket with Skelton & Bartell along with rolling the dice on #18.

Oh no doubt about it. Peyton throws to a guy like Fitz and we're talking stratosphere. I don't know how many more catches Fitz gets having Peyton throw to him, no clue, but I know that combination alone opens up everyone else. I have no doubt our # 2, our # 3, and our TE's production go way way up with that combo. Fitz is already badass, but Peyton elevates those #2's, 3's and our TE enormously.

Problem is, I don't think that's necessary to win a championship like Peyton wants to do. He can take ordinary receivers--I'm assuming he believes this--and elevate that whole offense, behind a much superior offensive line, a better defense, with other possibilities that we can't offer. That's my concern. And that very well may be his mindset.

He has to look at our offensive line and think, "Man, one mistake by these knuckleheads and I'm done," while at the same time thinking, "This other team doesn't have Fitz, but they have a great O-line, a stout defense, and the owner is giving me a stake in the team (or a GM position in the future, or whatever it is)," and that may be more appealing.

And I want to add, Peyton has to be looking at the Warner situation here. There's a lot of good. But there's also bad. Look at Warner's last game. Warner retired after that beating, and I think Manning could accept that. However, given his current state of rehab versus a relatively healthy Warner, the dude could end up in a wheelchair or something. Who knows what he's thinking, but that's the reality. That has to be a completely frightening proposition in my opinion.

just joking with you. I just meant that indianapolis is where he has lived for a long time.

I thought you were talking about his hometown being in TN.

Don't talk about the Lakers to me, too soon. :)

On one hand; I think Peyton has serious interest in the Cards, since it seems like we have almost everything he wants (Warm weather, dome, "easy" division, best WR, coaching familiarity)

On the other; I think Peyton visited with the Cards simply because he has a good relationship with Whiz, and just wanted to see if it was a possible fit, but not necessarily a team he considered a contender.

In the end, I don't see the Cards winning the bidding war that will ensue in the next couple days. The Titans owner seems like he's willing to do anything to acquire Manning, even offer him an executive position after he retires.

I have to disagree. I think Larry had a LOT to do with his visit.

Marcus my be a big-mouth little brother with too much time on his hands but I absolutely believe his tweets that Larry and Peyton have been communicating for months on this.

Or Larry and Peyton's people. SOMETHING has been up.

I initially meant to say Whiz/Larry, but got caught up in something else mid post. I definitely think Larry has A LOT to do with Peyton's decision if he chooses AZ. However, with all the uncertainty on the O-Line and with all the other teams bidding to get Peyton, it just doesn't seem likely.

You can bet that the broad discussion on $$$ has already taken place. Short of that, and the Cards being comfortable, they'd be out of the game.

I've been listening to a lot of talk and reading more tweets than I probably should. It's all been speculation and filling air time. I've not heard a word that even claims to actually be from Peyton's camp.

Until he says other wise my motto is Keep Hope Alive. :)

An 89 year old owner promising a job 3, 4 years down the road. He can only pray that he can deliver on the promise. In other words: doubt that this has much bearing on his decision given that Irsay has also made a similar offer.

Bingo. +1.

All of the "news" is just people talking out of their puckered buttholes. Nobody knows anything. Our chances are as good today as they were a week ago.

Bingo Part II.

If Peyton Manning wants an executive job, any of these teams chasing him will give him an executive job. As if this would be a unique advantage that Tennessee would have to offer him.
