Tony Clark should be in every close game at the end for his defense. Two very nice plays he just had in the 10th. Let's win it now!

Wow, so close to another winning homer from Young. I thought he had that one.

Giants take the lead :(

I think the Dbacks are going to drop this one, but if they can keep taking 2 of 3 in each series, I'm sure we'll all take that. I really hope they can win the BoSox series and grab the Valleys attention. If they drop 2 of 3 in that series I think any fans who were on the edge about coming to some more games will go "forget it, same old Dbacks as the last few years"

to make it worse, SD just tied LA in the bottom of the ninth with three runs and still no outs!

Lost a winnable one with lazy pitching - Livan for one inning and Valverde. 5-4 Giants in 11. Giving up a homerun to Vizquel is really inexcusable - Livan just gets really lazy at times.

Amen. But this one was on TV for me (FSNAZ), so it sucked to see them so offensively inept. It will keep the fans away for a little longer, unfortunately, IMO. Not justifiably so, but it is what it is. Boston now rolls into town and they may "pack" the stadium with 30K. The weekend series does help though.

He is serviceable and can be good, but I wouldn't call him "one of the best closers in the game". The DBacks have absolutely no offense, so of course his save chances are going to be there - because either the DBacks lost or they won by only a small margin. They are in the bottom half of the league in runs scored (22 out of 30 in both BA and runs scored). Good thing they are #4 in ERA in the entire league! That is lights out, but the hitting is anemic. That puts pressure on the closer, because a blown save will then generally mean a loss for him and the team. 4 blown saves I believe and 3 if not four losses in those games for the team.

Sorry to rant - I just don't like him closing. He is not mentally tough at all. But his 9 one-run saves are pretty good nonetheless.

So because of those stats you gave, and the fact that most of the games we play in are close makes what he is doing this season all the more impressive. 3 blown saves this year thats pretty impressive!

Sure, it's okay, but impressive is Cordero. Look, Valverde's problem is he faces way too many batters for his number of save opportunities (113 for 23) [slightly old data], so it is matter of time before his numbers correct. As a comparison, Cordero (league leader) has faced 87 through 22 save opportunities. He is a better pitcher as well as a better closer. Now some of these numbers may represent extra inning work, but I have to call that about even for all closers because I am not going to do that much research... Valverde is fine for now, but we need better - whether it is him improving (don't see it) or someone else. But perhaps I am just bitter over a "lazy" loss.

But to clarify this whole thing, it is a team problem (poor offense), not just a closer "problem".

I went to the game today. Excellent game. I really thought we had it in the bag, until Jose took the mound. I love the guy (Signed my cousin's ticket for him today) but he just doesn't have it all there at times.

Anyone catch exactly what happened with the guy throwing the object (What looked like a foam football) at Bonds?
