If that was LEGAL then Daniel Snyder and Jerry Jones could get every good player in the NFL. Just pay them the vet min, but give them a 100 million endorsement from Joe's Bail Bonds, Apex Carpet Cleaning, etc,

You cannot offer players deals outside the normal contract structure.

If I owned Facebook and was a Cards fan. What would stop me from signing Fitz to endorse my site for an extra $100 million? But only if he stayed in AZ of course...

I just made the mistake of reading replies on ESPN from Titans fans.... "Peyton is coming home!" Last I checked the Mannings are from Mississippi and Peyton was born in New Orleans you hillbillies.

No wonder Lane Kiffin ran for the hills as fast as he could.
They are referring to his college home. Kiffin was and is an a$$. He destroys everything he touches and he will destroy USC. I'd rather be a hillbillie than to be such a worldly sophisticate as you consider yourself to be. Now run along and be condescending to someone else to try and make yourself feel superior.

The lifetime thingy works both ways. It also would mean that Peyton would be a prisoner stuck in TN forever. (& by the way, it doesn't say what his compensation per year would be after FB).

I'm not so sure how cool that would be other than to give Manning a "I gave up,a lifetime contract to work for you" bargaining chip for wherever he ends up.

Slightly OT - Back in the day (about Age 33) I moved from Corporation A to advance my career at Corporation B. The President of Corp A told me on my last day: "You'll always have a job here."

Generous offer, but I never took him up on it (other oceans to cross and mountains to climb).

Could be the same deal with Peyton.

Adam Schefter on Mike & Mike this morning (Thr 3/15) said his opinion was it's strictly down to 4: AZ, TN, DEN, and MIA. There probably won't be any more visits or teams come into play. Then he said he thought the final 2 are going to be TN and DEN .... and he could see it going either way between the 2 ... Thought Elway will could have a big influence in the end.

For what it's worth ...

Does seem to fit. I've always believed PM will stay in the AFC.

I just hope the Cards are prepared to make the hard decision on Kolb if PM hasn't made a decision by tomorrow....position youself favorably for "plan B" if you have one....

I think we know one way or another today. Manning has met with who he's going to meet with and he's aware that he's holding up FA for these teams to one degree or another.

JMHO.

Plan "B" is to pay Kolb's bonus.

If Manning decides on DEN or TN, the Cardinals should give Kevin Kolb his undeserved $7 million IMO.
I'm as dubious as ever about his ability to stay healthy, let alone lead the Cardinals to the post-season, but at this point you almost have to hold your nose, pay the roster bonus and hope for the best.

Sounding more and more like the Cards should have the check filled out and ready for the 'old mans signature. Unless "Plan B" is to let Kolb go and go after someone else ...

If PM signs with TN would the Cards have interest in Hasselbeck over Kolb? or is that too much of a risk?

What is going on with the Matt Flynn situation?

We tried wildly overpaying an unproven backup last offseason. Why would we do it again with Flynn?

Rodgers was an unproven 'backup' too ...
Schuab was a 'backup' in ATL ...
Farve was a 'backup' when GB traded for him...
Warner was a 'backup'

on and on.... who's to say Flynn isn't going to be really good? He's looked pretty capable in the few games he's played in. Not saying I know that he will be ... sometimes you gotta see the potential if it's there.

The reports I am seeing is that Flynn won't get a big payday. To say he is 'unproven' is a massive understatement.

Gambo Facebook status earlier this morning:
Had a good conversation tonight with someone very close to Peyton and while he does not know where he is going he did say that he believes the deciding factor will be who has best chance to get to a Super Bowl. And he believes that the easiest path is in the AFC where you don't have to deal with New Orleans, Green Bay or the Giants. That in the AFC he only really has Brady to deal with so he may get playoff games against Tebow, Rivers, Flacco, Ben, Sanchez, Schaub while in NFC its Rodgers, Brees, Eli. Was interesting conversation -- basically he just thinks AFC is much weaker and therefore more attractive based on ability to get to win right away and get to a Super Bowl .

Wonder if Peyton is aware of this

Last time Bud Adams gave anyone a lifetime contract was coach Bill Peterson. He was fired after 1 1/2 seasons and replaced by Sid Gillman.

I would be willing to guess a contract "for life" is a violation of quite a few rules. Bud Adams is just senile enough to think he can get away with it.

A few teams have tried in the past and both the NFL and NFLPA have declined it. It is without a doubt against the rules they deem is circumventing the principle of the the cap.

If Manning's decision is based on the fact that he thinks the AFC is an easier path to the Super Bowl, despite the fact his little brother has won it twice coming out of the NFC, I really don't want him here anyway. You would think a guy like that who is a sure Hall of Famer would want to go toe to toe with the best but maybe that isn't the case.

Gambo Facebook status earlier this morning:

See I think this is such illogical thinking.

The NFC has been represented by what 8 different teams the past 10 years or something ridiculous?

The AFC has been represented by the Pats or Steelers pretty much every year with a few exceptions.

Pitt had a down year last year but they havent fallen off the map. People need to stop looking at as "The NFC has better quarterbacks" and thus its harder. Well s--- Peyton Manning is a pretty damn good QB himself.

But Pitt and NE are ALWAYS going to be good. They are too well run of franchises. ANd this whole superior conference thing is cyclical anyway.

The reality:

Pitt/New England >>>> Packers, Saints, Giants etc.

They are the most consistent. The Giants have won 2 Super Bowls but they arent going to become 13-3 juggernauts all of a sudden.

Very frustrating for me. In the NFC there is a BETTER chance of being the right team, right time (Like NYG) then getting through the AFC where you have year in year out machines like Pitt and New England.

I mean is there any QUESTION whatsoever that Pitt and NE are the best run most consitent NFL franchises over the past 10 years?

Cant just view this through a lens in the moment. Have to look at the bigger picture. Especially since while Peyton is playing(next 3 years), NE or Pitt arent going anywhere so its not like he can ride them out either.

ARGGGH Someone set me up with Peyton ASAP so I can talk some sense into him.

So Gambo talked to someone who knows Peyton and that person speculated.

Yawn. Still waiting for real news. (Which we may not hear until the press is told to get the satellite trucks to location X.)

Manning must know about the Kolb situation. I wonder if, at least he could disqualify the Cards, so he could call and let them know (and ask them to keep it to themselves). That way they could move ahead with plans B, C or D.

Maybe it's wishful thinking but Arizona has been the stingiest in feeding the rumor mill; maybe because they know something that we (and all the pundits) don't know....

Our guys (media and front office included) have been the most professional of any city attempting to lure in Manning. I'd hate for that to come back to bite us in the butt when he makes his decision.

I've been biting the bullet on this one for quite a while. I just find it implausible that - brother with the Giants or not - Peyton or anyone else would put "competing in the AFC" anywhere near the top of his wish list.

The way schedules are set up, you get to play every team on a fairly regularly-cycled basis and playing 3 teams in your division twice a year (instead of once - or every 2 or 3 years) playing in the AFC doesn't figure to be as big a deal as, say, money, team-chemistry, likelihood of winning, player-coach relationship, club management structure/philosophy, team culture, local community, etc.

Just sayin'.

Well, if he goes elsewhere you can bet that not blowing one's horn will be part of the recriminations... ;)

So you can bank on this. I am going to go watch March Madness at 11 am today, which is pretty much the first waking moment I won't be near this board.

So that is when the news will come down one way or the other.

Book it.
