2018 NBA Draft Live Discussion Thread

well, we ought to have good intel on Okobo, from Igor. Raze said he was a terrible mess on defense, so that has me worried a bit.

    Now its about #16, 31, and 59

There are about 450 players in the league. Ten years of first round picks is 300. I think the average tenure is the league is less that ten years. If all 1st round picks stuck that long that would still leave 150 non first rounders - that's 33%. 42% sounds about right.

That's my thinking, too. Might as well let his lead assistant get some reps.

    Now its about #16, 31, and 59

I'll reiterate my last resort at#16, assuming Zhaire is not there. Offer the Twolves Ulis and the pick in return for Tyus Jones. With their money situation they'll be SOL when Jones is an RFA next year. After 3 years he about as proven as a back up can be: career 3.8 ast/TO ratio; second...

I'm with you on Zhaire at 16, but you're not thinking PG at 31. I like Jevon Carter for his defense, though I don't see him as a starter. There are a number of PG's that might be there - I'm thinking Igor might want Okobo and he might be there though he's been climbing. If he really wants...

The 2017-2018 Around the NBA thread

I kind of admired LaVar at first - it takes a lot of moxie to stand up to the big shoe companies. But all the crap since then had me doing a Kidd360, as AzSteve phrased it, on him. I never wanted Lonzo the player - I was relieved we weren't drafting where we had much chance of Fultz or him...

Suns to pursue trade for Leonard

Leonard is dropping in value every day and he's obviously a tricky guy to handle. No way should the Suns pursue him at any price.

I've been on the PG bandwagon at 16 but if Zhaire Smith drops I hope we take him... IIRC he has PG inclinations. Then at 31 we could reach for Jevon Carter - he'd be great coming off the bench when we need to disrupt the opponents offense. Of course, if Igor likes Shaq Harrison for that role...

NBA may change draft eligibility in 2021.

I must not have read the article. Maybe somebody said getting rid of one and done and I leapt to the wrong conclusion - that they meant two and done

You're right, I was thinking we would get compensated much better than that. Lonzo Ball and Deng works to a net of about zero. I'm no more of a Lonzo fan than I was before so in my opinion Ball and Deng are net negative combined.

NBA may change draft eligibility in 2021.

I don't see how it will work like that. The year it begins, we will not be able to draft the players that just finished their freshman year, but the year before we drafted the best of the freshman class, so that first season will be a particularly weak draft class. in subsequent years it will...

The 2017-2018 Around the NBA thread

Indeed it was! For the youngsters here I'll mention that Gene Conley was an NBA player- he had the distinction of being replaced at C when Bill Russell joined the Celtics. I was into baseball then, being a substitute bat boy for the visiting team for my team in the WIL. I was subbing the day...

That's not necessarily bad. As long as we came out great, why not make the Lakeres a formidable, old team, emphasis on old! Let them battle the Warriors and Rockettes for a couple of yeaqrs while we mature into conteneders. When are three of them are decrepit we'll rule the roost out West...

The 2017-2018 Around the NBA thread

I looked at a couple of Grizz blogs or whatever they were. No mention of such a trade, all they could do was gush about what a great fit Doncic would be with Gene Conley and Gasol - obviously they are thinking he's likely to fall to them. I think they could well be right about the fit so like...

    2018 Playoffs Thread

Ginobili was a thug of the first rank in my book. He would flail and stagger 20 feet in order to hit an opponent in someplace below the waist. It was not random because he never hit a teammate.

The Suns with the 2018 #1 overall pick select....

I'm with you. If we let Harrison go in favor of Ulis, I'd be ticked off. Canaan I don't know after that injury he had but if he fully recovered I'd want him over Ulis. Both of them defend much better than Tyler and Harrison could develop into quite a good two way PG. I suppose we have to let...

Trade down scenarios with the #1 pick

Spurred on by AzSteven's assurances that Lauri would be HOF, I floated the idea of drafting him at 4, but I didn't say I'd do it... I merely wondered if I'd have the guts to reach that far, if I were making the selection. Even that drew plenty of scoffs and , of course, I put the onus on Steve...

Trade down scenarios with the #1 pick

    Summer trades?

I mentioned Dinwiddie a few times but more as someone who wouldn't likely be available. I'd prefer Tyus Jones from Minny, who isn't an FA this year. But he will be next year and the Wolves are already under money pressure thanks to Wiggins. If Jones goes into FA they won't be able to match a...

    Suns pre-draft workouts

I'd have to go with Bamba and Doncic. Bamba is a close second to Ayton in my book and has been for some weeks. Reimember back before we got #1, Bamba was always my consolation prize at 2, 3 or 4. I think of him of a more athletic Gobert with more potential on the offense end and probably a...

That wouldn't be a bad haul... there are a raft of good players on into the second round this year. I noticed Okobo during the Slovenia run last summer - played for France IIRC. Igor should have Elie nailed - hope he's on the McD's radar.

    Bryan Colangelo: World Class Idiot

I had a grudgeing admiration of JC as wheeler-dealer but I hated his choice of coaches - he refused to hire anyone with enough backbone to stand up to him. MacCloed was the worst of them. Then he installed his son as the GM and I lost all respect for him. He topped it off by selling the team...

    Now its about #16, 31, and 59

It's almost unfair to compare anyone to Brandon Knight. As long as his mental makeup is different he could be quite a good player. But as someone else said Aaron's more of 2 in a 1's body and that's not what we need - I agree with that evaluation after watching a couple of videos. I hope McD...

    Moving up scenarios

Do you guys realize we are reaching unheard of levels of agreement here? I reacted like Ouchie when I heard the Bledso comparison for Sexton. I didn't land on SGA, Raze convinced me that Shamet was good fit for us but I like SGA equally well at 16. I'd be happy if we picked another PG at...
