I don't think it is likely that we will be competing anytime in the next decade with if we continue the type of decision making we have seen thus far under Sarver, but you still don't convince me that contending is unrealistic. Sure the 87 Suns had Nance, but we ought to have a fairly high pick...
Wow! I thought that I was down on the team's chances. I think that ANY team could realistically be competing in less than a decade. Ten years from now, kids we don't know exist are going to be stars in the league and most of the current All-stars will be retired or on a downward slide. I am...
Maybe I've grown to cynical, but my guess is that the Suns objective is to make a profit, not get a championship. If they can do just enough to put fans in seats and sell some jerseys without spending too much that probably suits Sarver just fine.
Look at the Clippers, they are one of 3 teams...
He is also not even in the same talent class as Barkley. You can't build a championship contender around Cousins, but he is mental enough that I can imagine some elite players not wanting to play with him.
He also is a lousy outside shot. I also don't think the Suns can contend building around Rondo, but the window is closing to build around Nash. I'd rather have Rondo at PG for five more years than Nash for two.
It would be great if we could get a marquee player or low lottery pick for Nash...
I'd do it in a heart beat, but realistically I don't see us getting much in return for Nash. While he is one of the best in the game, he is also a 37-year-old who doesn't play much defense, and is in the last year of his contract. I can't think of a team who would be willing to part with much...
So does this mean that the Suns have moved past the trend of hiring less talented brothers and are now hiring less talented cousins?
Telfair is a step down from Brooks but better than Dowdell.
If there are 20 amazing players in the draft, doesn't that mean that we and 19 other teams will greatly improve? That puts us in the same situation as before.
There is no advantage in tanking in a super rich draft that you are describing.
PG: KJ, Nash, Kidd
SG: Thunder Dan, Horny
SF: Matrix, Hawkins, Nance
PF: Sir Charles, Chambers
C: Amare, Adams, Oliver Miller
I don't know who I would have inactive out of those 13 for my active 12 man roster.
Man, I loved Dumas. That guy really knew how to party. We used to hang out doing lines all the time. Then "The Man" got him down and he ended up leaving Phoenix. What a pity. That guy could really hold his snow.
